Hover fly

3 to 13 mm
Adult flies vary in length from 3 to 13 mm depending on species. The adults all have a single pair of wings and black or brown bodies that are often marked with brightly colored stripes or spots covering abdomen and/or thorax. Because they often exhibit stripes of yellow they are often mistaken for wasps or bees.

video is private

that was an experiment that didn’t work without going into video recording mode. what I was trying to do was a still life of artificial flowers in a jug but with moving snow flakes falling down
in the background.

That looks like clouds or mist hiding the escarpment but in fact it isn’t, it is dust.

The dust storm has travelled over a 1000km all the way from drought stricken South Australia just to be here this morning.

It is now on its way to New Zealand so that they can enjoy it too.

Unedited as straght from camera resized to show on here

Little story about this photo
To make a high resolution photo 100mp size need the camera to be rock steady as the camera lens takes several shots of different parts of photo and puts them all together. Called sensor shift.
now this requires the camera to be absolutely still, and the best way is on a tripod or monopod. this was taken on a monopod of mine

All wonderful pictures Rose!

My favourite has to be the final one, was it a kind of fort?

Thanks Chilli, yes, it’s called Castelvecchio, a 14th century medieval fortress with 7 towers, that also extends into a fortified bridge over the river Adige which flows through the city. I think I took a picture of this bridge, I’ll post it with my next selection later. It also has a museum but we didn’t have time to visit this too, so much to see and do in only two days!
