Interesting picture Rose, I notice it is constructed out of bricks…I thought bricks were were a lot later?

I guess it depends on the bricks Foxy.
Mud bricks were used extensively in ancient Egypt.
More likely for housing rather than defensive purposes.

If I’m not mistaken wasn’t Italy during the 14th century very competitive? City states ruthlessly fighting with each other in the name of trade and commerce?

But yes, the bricks look great and work very well in a picture, kind of warm.

They certainly look like manufactured bricks Chilli…I’ve got a fireplace built out of hand thrown bricks and they don’t look as perfect as those bricks. :009:

The best aspect ratio for Micro Four Thirds is 4:3, that is the size/shape of the sensor, not wasting any pixels. You can then crop it yourself in post if desired.

They call them “mattoni in cotto” - terracotta bricks. Yes, they were here definitely before medieval times @Chilliboot, the Ancient Romans had a passion for building with bricks

Oh yes, endless battles in Italy in those days , from region to region, city to city, lots of defence systems - walls, bridges, forts, castles - were built in the Middle Ages, there are thousands all over the country that are still standing today.

That’s what I thought Rose. A fascinating subject in it’s own right. I might have to follow up with some reading :+1:

One of the oldest libraries in the world, over a thousand manuscripts preserved and also inconabula (printed scripts dated before 15th century). First opened in 5th century, has survived many war bombings, raids, floods.
Some books still have fragments of bombs.

Thanks @Pimmy, yes it’s the perfect time to visit city centres now, it will get too hot in a short while! Temperatures are starting to soar towards Summer heat.
Your dish looks very yummy, in fact. I don’t know this one, what are the ingredients?

Yes I was really surprised to see those little turtles, watching them gave me even more a sense of peace, a feeling which these beautiful gardens already evoked as soon as you entered.

It’s easy to see that the civilised world emanated from Italy and Rome Rose, when we were living in mud huts and washing in the river…Nothing changes…(sigh)
I just love Italian sculpture and art, so much passion, and when we visited the Vatican we saw maps of the Mediterranean Islands made in the early centuries that had to be plotted from the air…
