Good morning al, this morning I enjoyed afairly spectacular sunrise as the sun rose on a dust laden sky (I have put a pic elsewhere)
Today is cold and windy, maximum temperature only 19°, after coming from the tropics I am having a bit of trouble adjusting to this cold spell. Thank gawd for my Ooodie.
Still sorting things from my trip, this morning I dismantled the microwave from my camper because the door latch seemed to be sticking. Just put a little bit of silicon grease on the rubbing parts of the mechanism (it is all plastic)
Not sure if I mentioned that I have ordered a new laptop as this one is a bit long in the tooth and the keyboard a bit ragged.
Grey skies here with rain forecast for later. We’ll be going to the supermarket this morning while the weather is dry. Not sure what the rest of the day holds.
Fairly dull day here down in by the seaside. Wife is off to look after my father-in-law, leaving me alone for the day. That means time to myself, but not without a handful of house jobs to do. May wander up for a coffee and breakfast sandwich later and if I have any time left, probably spend a little time tinkering with my rebuilt PC ready for some camera shoots I have coming up.
Morning all – rain this morning with more heavy rain and strong winds later!
Did some sorting out upstairs yesterday, walked down the stairs to see my neighbour working in my porch, he had rung the bell but I hadn’t heard it so he thought I was out and had let himself in! He thinks he has fixed the damp and is now repainting the wall.
Rain held off, gardener arrived and managed to clear the weeds growing between the paving stones as well as cut the grass and tidy the planters. He was going to cut the hedge but it started to rain so that is on the list for next time.
Proof, if needed, of the eccentricities of the British - yesterday was the Annual Cheese Rolling Contest. For those that don’t know this involves a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese being rolled down an extremely steep hill and competitors run down the hill and attempt to catch it. Most competitors end up falling and rolling down the hill – there have been some serious injuries in the past but that doesn’t stop people taking part! Whoever gets to the bottom of the hill first wins the cheese!
Today’s plan is do some shopping, before the rain gets too heavy and some housework.
ust booked anappointment for tomorrow with my dentist. 3 weeks ago I had 3 broken teeth extracted and ne has not healed up as ikt should have done by now. living on paracetamols is not the ideal
Good morning to the friends I’ve never met, or ever likely to, but I feel like I know some of you fairly well…It’s a pity I wasn’t still working as a courier, I travelled regularly to all corners of the British mainland, from Dundee in the North to Southampton and Weston-super-mare in the South, and most places in between, and could have perhaps met some of you…
Anyway, I doubt whether you want to hear my ramblings so down to business…
Woke up to a very nice morning, sunshine and cloud without the strong wind that persisted all day yesterday, so feeling frisky, I decided on my five mile route and put in a few sprints along the way… Something I might regret later…
I had planned on doing some work on the summer house, but with the threat of rain later (and the absence of Mrs Fox) I decided to while my time away on the forum and sort out some photos.
The photos in question are the ones my parents left behind when they both expired in 2009.
My Dad was a keen photographer with his own darkroom, which I was forbidden to enter until I was of an age. So there are lots of photos…What do you do with them?
In the past I sorted out all the ones that mean something to me, and probably contained me… or my parents in happier times, but there are loads.
I thought about transferring them to digital, memory sticks or some kind of device, but I decided that they could be too easily lost or storage preferences changed and not be able to be viewed in the future.
Perhaps someone might have some ideas…
Well there are some ‘highly strung’ members on the forum @Bruce
I bet that dust storm plays havoc with solar panels Bruce…
You certainly have some great neighbour’s @SheilaP you don’t suppose he could put a fence up for me do you?
We have a similar thing here Sheila, it’s called the ‘Haxey Hood’ they throw it down a steep hill and two pubs compete and try to catch it and take it to their pub to win…A bit of a rough and tumble as all the village join in…
The Haxey Hood, a historic rugby-style game, was held on January 6, 2025, in the villages of Haxey and Westwoodside in North Lincolnshire. Rival groups compete to push a leather tube, called the “hood,” back to their local pub. The winning pub gets to display the hood for the rest of the year. The event, which dates back to the 14th century, involves a large crowd and is described as a huge rugby scrum.
Good luck with your teeth realspeed…hope they can sort it out…
Yes, I am very lucky with my neighbours - living alone it is very reassuring to know I can call on them if necessary - although I don’t take advantage of that. In fact the last time I went to Australia I was told off because I booked a car to take me to Heathrow rather than let them drive me!
Thanks Chilli, much appreciated and hospitable of you, and I would be disappointed if you didn’t didn’t call in on your way up norf’ alas, I’m afraid it would would only be tea/coffee or a glass of Mrs Foxes red wine though Chilli…
PS: I think there is a bottle of Jack Daniels in the back of the drinks cupboard…
Actually that is a thought, I will have to check mine on the car port roof tomorrow (they just keep the aux battery in the car and the camper topped up). If necessary I can hose them off.
