Addendum. The fog is lifting. At 5:30 this morning Trump’s team has announced that Musk is to help Trump cut government spending. Together with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, he will take over the leadership of a specially created advisory body.
This “Department of Government Efficiency” will not be part of the government, but will work with the White House “to drive forward large-scale structural reforms”. The work of Musk and Ramaswamy should be completed by July 2026.

I read that the acronym for this new Department - DOGE - is also the name for a cryptocurrency that Musk promotes. The value of Dogecoin increased by 10% following the announcement that Trump had appointed Musk to co-manage the new department, DOGE
Maybe a more fitting name would be
“Department of Donald’s Government Efficiency”.

The problem is that both parties in power serve themselves via serving their biggest donors. They’re all purchased. It’s just political theater that we see as they cater to different ideologies in optics and very minimal changes. We’d need to elect non-purchased politicians, non career politicians all over the board simultaneously, if we ever want to have a chance. But most people are caught up in the theater and finger pointing.

Is there a need, now that the election is over, to create a new thread if we want to discuss Trump’s forthcoming presidency? There are likely to be lots of interesting announcements, appointments and proposals. So plenty to chew over and this thread is already quite long…
