US Election 2024 antics

I have to say that in the rest of the world Trump is far more famous for his out and out lies than Biden.

The “debate” that basically sealed Biden’s fate was remarkable for the number of lies Trump told.

But then all pollies lie, it’s in their nature, Trump is just more blatant than others

They both lie, I agree.

well that is the whole point - something did come up.

an acceptance of the party’s better chance of success with a new leader, along with age and health.

But I m with Lincolnshire - if all you meant was Biden said something he genuinely meant at the time and then changed his mind as circumstances changed - like everyone does at different times because everyone’s circumstances do change in life - then really a meaningless point and time to get back to rational discussion of election happenings.

If you want to have last word on this, go for it - I’m out on this meaningless tangent.

Harris is pulling the same stunt as Biden did, avoiding the mic. It’s hard for them to step up in front of a mic and answer the questions off the cuff. Appears the puppet masters are still in control.

I understand from the recent social media frenzy that Harris is doing quite well. Particularly in Arizona. Perhaps she might win? Wouldn’t that be a turnip for the books.

Is Musk going to become as deranged as Trump? He certainly is one of the most influential men in the US through his ownership of X. A truly dangerous man.

Were it not so serious, it would be hilarious, how Trump supporters knowingly (and ardently) support the out right lies and misinformation spewed out continuously by Trump, much like Adolph Hitler and his cohorts of the 1920’s and 30’s. This is what will bring about the election of Pamala Harris, and (hopefully) the reformation of our (US) political and justice systems.

It is worrying stuff but I’d hesitate to make too many comparisons to the rise of the National Socialists under Hitler in the 1930’s. Certainly he and his propaganda machine were guilty of many lies, false claims and mob incitement. However they primarily lied about bolshevism and jews (two scapegoats that they often conflated). However, there was basis of concern over the bolshevists in Germany and they had attempted a Soviet style revolution in the 1920’s. I’m not suggesting that the Nazi’s were the right answer to address the threat of communist revolution (although the wealthy industrialist thought so at the time). But they could point to factual issues. Trump and Musk have no factual issues when he claims about the voting systems, but that doesn’t stop them.

You do not see it in his outright lies and the false rumors he and his constituents are spreading about the Democrats, and anyone else who opposes Trump, actually if one were to pay attention it is very similar. Hitler wrote his intentions in Mein Kampf, and Donald Trump has outrightly declared what his intentions are if he is reelected, and his primary supporters are looking forward to a Christofascist State ( no different from any extremist religious state, and just as dangerous). Currently moderate members from both Left and Right are coming together, and don’t get me wrong, moderate Republicans will be just as instrumental in stopping Trump in 2024 as they were in 2020.

I’m not a fan of Robert F. Kennedy Jr (I)., his presidential campaign suffered a blow this week when a judge in New York invalidated his petition to put his name on the state ballot, a ruling that could potentially create problems for the candidate as he faces challenges elsewhere, meanwhile a known traitor and convicted felon (Donald Trump) is still eligible to run, religion and politics, naught but hypocrites.

Three months ago when “Trump” wanted to do away with “Tax on tips”, the Democrats was saying how much revenue that would be lost. But all of a sudden. Since “Harris” jumped on “Trumps” band wagon, It’s now a brain storm of an idea.
She might of looked better if she had jumped on that band wagon three months ago.

It is a bad idea, I do not care who’s idea it is, tips are earned income. Certain Industries (especially the service industry) are allowed get away with under paying their employees and relying on customers / clients to pick up the slack. A “tip” should be in recognition of “good / exemplary” service, not a wage supplement. Every worker is entitled to earn a " living wage", and many we are expected to tip are lacking in both service / customer skills. I do not mind tipping a server who provides good service, I will not go back into an establishment which gives poor service, like it or not, all employees are a reflection of the business they work for, and bad work habits implies a poorly run establishment. The US government cuts the taxes of the higher / lower classes, which over burdens the middle class.

“I watched Sheldon sitting so proud in the White House when we gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Trump said, speaking about Sheldon Adelson. “That’s the highest award you can get as a civilian, it’s the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but civilian version.”

“It’s actually much better because everyone gets the congressional Medal of Honor, that’s soldiers, they’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead,” he went on.

“She gets it, and she’s a healthy beautiful woman. And they’re rated equal. But she got the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Can any Trump supporter defend that comment?

That’s his opinion. It’s wrong in my eyes. But my opinion on the “Presidential medal of freedom” goes to and belongs to the cowards.
The biggest difference between the heros medal and the cowards medal. The cowards medal recipients think they deserve it. The heros medal recipient don’t think the deserve it.
You do not have to show respect to recipients of the “Presidential medal of freedom” but even the president has to show respect to the recipients of the “CMH”.
That’s just my opinion

If he thinks like that about the brave people who defend their country, what does think of the rest of you?Unless you are rich and give him money of course. He’s a despicable sack of excrement and if people vote for him they must be mad.(Just my opinion of course :grinning:)

I’m not following the actual idea - we don’t have tips in Australia like you do in US - but I think it is good to recognise, as you did, that something is a bad ( or good) suggestion regardless of who suggests it.

Blindly thinking everything your favoured person said or did is good while everything the other side said or did is bad - not a sign of someone critically thinking or weighing suggestions or decisions on merit.

you see that sometimes - this is a bad thing to do because the other side did it (Biden deciding not to run, for example)
