Women breast feeding in Sainsbury’s car park

Exactly, and anyway, if a bit of breast or nipple gets exposed in the process, who cares?

Only those who are prurient and misogynist or have led extremely sheltered lives would react with shock, horror, disgust, faint ……

The times they are a-changing’ ……

….these damn uppity breast feeding women have the dosh and status now to dare to frequent the most select of establishments who are delighted to welcome them in as big spender clientele (and maybe equally delighted to let them replace the moaning old mysogynist in the corner )

Breast feeding helps gives babies immunity from disease and suggesting they shouldn’t be taken out in public is yet another way of imposing Purdah on women and slapping them in their place

What about old men, their immune system is low and they are very susceptible to death by infectious diseases, so should they not go out in public?

If a cafe isn’t an appropriate place for a baby to dine I don’t know where is.

we’re not gonna let go of this breast are we?

I was not going overboard Morty, this woman was sitting in her car to feed her baby so nobody could see, apart from the nosy woman who told her to stop, so I was merely giving my opinion on the topic of this thread.

I just find it hard to believe that anybody gets upset about a woman feeding her child , when it is a natural thing to do.

If a baby is hungry it needs to be fed, and I can say that I have never seen a woman flashing her breast when feeding a baby… they are always discreet.

I guess it comes down to different people having different values of decency.

I think it also comes down to the era we live in, and our ability to overcome our reluctance to acknowledge that Queen Victoria is no longer on the throne.

I still maintain that breastfeeding in a cafe or worse, changing a nappy, is not necessary.

Fine. Say it’s the most natural thing to do, which it is, but you might as well say that defecating is and what about the poor person wearing a colostomy bag who has an accident, and finds their bag is overfull, and changes it in a cafe?

The incident in the car is different, that’s mum’s own business. Her car. Her baby.

Anyway, I see it all as a small part of a larger issue.
100 years ago mum stayed at home to raise the kids and dad went out to work to earn a crust. (Yes! They survived on just bread and milk in those days!)

Then came women’s rights and equality which was undisputably a good thing … except now women are entitled, if not encouraged or feel pressured to be a mum and a working mum. Stick the kid on a nipple and mum can even be super mum, out shopping, working, and living her own life.

In it’s own way I wonder if rather than liberate women in one respect it’s reduced the importance of motherhood, of that bond with baby … of allowing her to devote her time to her child.

On reflection … families used to survive on one wage, and now partly down to women’s libbers and financial pressures families have/need two wages… and yet can still struggle to survive financially.
Seems to me something has gone wrong somewhere.

Nice to see you back Harbal, even though we seem to be in different camps on this one.

Well I agree with you about changing nappies in a cafe. :018:

You’ve just painted an image in my mind of baby with a bottle of mum’s expressed milk and a straw … of the cafe even selling cartons of it. :slightly_smiling_face:

I dod recall an incidence in the ozzie parliament a few years back when - yes you’ve guessed it a nursing female politician brought her into parliament - wait for it wait for it!! - an then proceeded to breast feed. She was asked to leave and under protest did? - I think at this time of the year it would be ok?

Yes, it certainly does :frowning:

Hi

I responded to the OP.

It seemed to me that a lady breast feeding discreetly in a car was perfectly acceptable.

My Ex Wife fed both our children in a discreet manner such as this which was fine for both her and me.

This thread has moved on.

Neither of us would have considered it acceptable to change a nappy in a cafe.

I will leave you to it.

I have yet to see anyone change a nappy in a cafe .
Should we also ban old men who drop food down their front ?

I’ve never seen anyone do that either, but it probably happens, and, no, it shouldn’t be allowed

But there’s no comparison between nappy changing and breast feeding

And both would be fine in your own car!

There is a rather obvious difference.

I noticed a mother breast feeding her child at the end of the checkouts in Sainsburys in Sutton Coldfield.
I was a little suprised as it was the first time i have seen that in a shop, but hey ho,why not,it is a natural thing to do.
No one seemed at all put out.

Mothers are breast feeding babies a thousand times a day at all different locations. Nobody complains or even notices. Okay, a member of staff took exception to one such mum feeding her baby in the car…Sainsbury’s have apologised, and the member of staff has been dealt with. How come the media have blown it up beyond all proportion? Who decided going to the media was the right thing to do…? Somebody wants their 15 minutes of fame and probably a few quid into the bargain. The media set the bait, and we all take it and run with it…
