I don’t like laptops, but I know a lot of people do like them. I much prefer to use a mouse, but I think if I had an ipad with touch screen, I have used my Daughters, I’d get on ok with that too.
I am not downloading W10 because if I did, I know I would have problems with it, it’s par for the course with me. Anything I change goes wrong.
I am still getting the box that says I can, but I am cancelling it each time.
That is the most sensible post I’ve seen for a while. If we had good reps here I would give you one of them.
Shropshiregirl If you have a wireless mouse installed then presumably you have a receiving device for it plugged into a usb socket on your computer.
Remove the device from the socket and restart your computer then plug the receiver back into the socket and it should reinstall the software and hopefully may work again properly
…and don’t forget to tell us how you get on
Mart - very true
In some cases I think wait until there’s a problem with a computer and a change is worthwhile - then opt for one that has windows 10 - I prefer this option for myself
Well ? Did you try it ?
Malcolm, I’m sorry but you have completely lost this klutz already. I have a laptop, I know how to turn it on, turn it off, when the battery is low I receive a message to tell me to charge it up, that is the only thing that I everplug into the little hole at the side of my laptop. I know absolutely nothing else about laptops or computers or usb sockets so please forgive me if I say you may as well be talking to a four year old with my absolutely zilch knowledge of your problem solving with wireless mouse?, (for which I thank you profusely anyway). It’s no good, I will have to wait for one of my grandchildren to come around and have a go at solving this. I’ve banished the laptop to the deep depths under the coffee table for now, I can’t bear to be near it! In fact, I’m so annoyed with what should have been a straightforward download by bluddy Microsoft (sorry for swearing on a Sunday Lord) if I open the lid and try anything I am just in the mood to throw it out of the bedroom window and get a feeling of satisfaction of what I think of Microsoft !! lol. Thanks again anyway Malcolm.
Show your grandson my post I am sure it will work it will take him 30 seconds !
would someone tell me what is so special about this Windows 10 and why it is any better than Windows 7 please
I reserved an upgrade from windows 8 to windows 10 a few weeks ago…Was prompted to do so last week and have had no problems whatsoever…It’s different and took Me a couple of days to find My way around …the main difference was getting the start button back which I had a few years ago on windows 7…Then I had to delete a few apps which I don’t need/want…I even found some stuff I thought was lost :~)…result…so am quite happy with it so far.
This we got a start button back I don’t understand I use 8.1 and have a start button so who lost it and where ?
My Toshiba laptop came with windows 8 installed 2 years ago,no start button, just a screen full of tiles…maybe they reinstalled it on widows 8.1…I don’t know…but nice to see it back and much improved.
So did mine I just go to the bottom left of the screen right click and select desktop on off button is there.
I had a critical error message from Microsoft earlier this morning to say ‘My start menu and Cortana had stopped working’ and to shut down while they fixed it which they did eventually…So those of You who have decided to wait before downloading it are wise to wait until all the hiccups are sorted…I see there are a lot of complaints about it.;~(
Ok Malcolm, will do, thank you x
it is not but if you have win8 then it is an improvement. i have one desktop and a laptop with win7 they will not be upgraded to win 10 but my other laptop had win 8 and that has been upgraded.
the start menu is back but it has those stupid tiles on the right hand side however you can remove and/or shuffle them about. the start menu alphabetic but full of junk apps which you can remove though i couldn’t get rid of the xbox one.
win10 also has very serious privacy implications. M$ wants to spy on you a lot if you do nothing.
when i upgraded from win 8 to win 10 i had already a local log on which win 10 kept i then went into the privacy settings and turned everything 'OFF". if any need turning on I will do that as the need arises. i also disabled cortana.
it is a big improvement on win 8 but then so is a poke with a sharp stick.
I don’t think it is better, just different in its usage, look and feel. Windows 10 probably won’t run your programs any better and running programs in a stable fashion plus enabling Internet activities is the main purpose of any operating system. The interface provided for doing that being secondary in my opinion but I know this is a major concern for many.
The look and feel of an OS aside, some people like to stay up to date with the latest Microsoft OS purely because it is the latest. This being regardless of what the previous operating system was. Just a choice that some people make and I’d normally fall into that category.
Reading around the wider Internet, some are getting on well with Windows 10 and others aren’t. Many who aren’t are going back to their previous operating systems even if that is Windows 8.1. Not everyone finds this a bad OS.
After hours spent pushing and pulling Windows 10 about trying to make it work well, I have to admit to being a bit disappointed with it and have gone back to using Windows 8.1. Things may change as time goes on but comparing the two, I find Windows 8.1 runs my programs better than Windows 10 does. I never have minded the tiles.
I could have gone back to using Windows 7 since I own a retail installation disk but I’ve got used to using Windows 8.1 now. Might try Windows 10 again in a few months when Nvidia will have hopefully issued a couple of driver updates for their graphics cards.
Regarding privacy concerns, an Internet search for ‘Updates Make Windows 7 and 8 Spy On You Like Windows 10’ can be informative. Then again, it could be true to say that those who have been on the Internet for a while are pretty much profiled anyway, no matter what OS is used.
Thanks for the information Mart helpful as always :-).
My son who provides my computers always advises upgrading the OS when practicable from a security point of view.
Maybe this latest version from China is the answer to all the problems.;-)

Thank you Mart, just read all the info you posted, I found it very helpful and it also made my mind up to stay with Windows 8.1 nothing wrong with it anyway.
If it aint broke dont mend it as they say
Thank you Mart and KF I think I’ll stick to my trusty windows 7.
