Why the Monarchy Should Have Died With the Queen

That’s the expenditure, what about the income? It’s called a balance sheet and the generated income far exceeds the expenditure, so your premise that the monarchy costs us money is surely wrong?

Or have I missed something?

The income which is supposed to be from tourism would come in anyway .
Ditto the income from the Crown estate which does not belong to the Royal Family but suposedly to the country .
You have not factored in the huge security and maintenance bills associated with the royals and their 23 official residences all this is paid for by the tax payer .
Security alone costs upwards of £ 100 million pa
Goodness only knows what the security arrangements for the Queens funeral cost of the weddings of her grandchildren

The Ayes have it,the ayes have it…unlock
Send ol’ sausage fingers & cammie knickers to Outer Mongolia…and the rest of the hangers on out to work
for a living,
Erm…wot 'appens next?
:stuck_out_tongue:

But aren’t the buildings and palaces etc the things that the tourists come to see as in France Muddy. So who would foot the maintenance bill if there were no royals?
Probably us anyway or the extortionate fees that the national trust charge.
Consider the royals as the upkeeper of all the famous estates if nothing else.

They are not keepers but kept .
We would still maintain the buildings but they could be opened to the public for longer and therefore make more money .
It is the upkeep of the actual royals that causes the expense
To maintain an entire unelected family in such state on the basis of a lottery of birth is against all democratic principals and we are supposed to be a democratic country

I haven’t advised you to watch local news. I said I’d prefer it if the national news spent more time on promoting the same sort of news that the local news does instead of just the gossip. Why would I think that everybody watches the BBC I don’t watch it, so why would I expect others to.

Muddy you don’t like the royals and that’s fair enough, but I do although not an ardent admirer like the millions who go to their events, etc. If one of them came to my town for an event, I’m not sure whether I’d go to it or not, but I’d be pleased for those who did go to it and the joy that it brought to them.

I also like it that my grandkids can see living history. And as I’ve said before I don’t like football, but wouldn’t begrudge those who do of their enjoyment just because I don’t like it.

I read somewhere that “visitors” should not be confused with “passers through”!

Statistics are amazing.

I think Dover once had the biggest number of visitors to the UK.

Hands upif you know why?

Oh heck! I haven’t been to any of those… :017:

I think a lot of old people do resent the young and enjoy putting them down and seeing them suffer. Part of the pro Brexit vote was about that, I think

If the person in the video in the OP had been a old boy, ranting in an opinionated way about Brexit, Lefties etc would the people on this forum for fellow wrinkles have been as quick to put him down as pompous, arrogant, pompous, sarcastic, mocking etc?

No of course not, Boomers are allowed to be all those things of course, and they usually are, but not the youngsters, they need to know their place :rage:

We have just had Boris Johnston a man who is not a young man but who is not known for being sexually continent and was famous for impulsive and ill thought decisions .( for the country that is)

I’m not so sure we would be better off . How much does Royal Family cost YOU as a taxpayer? 2022 figures revealed | Royal | News | Express.co.uk
Obviously there’s add ons state funeral ,Jubilees ,weddings and security.

However I hate the displays obscene wealth when there’s so much hardship and poverty. In my opinion it’s a little short of disgusting.
Thanks for the link .

That’s not all the royal family do. Wendey.

They must make the media millions, in all the gossip and scandals…What with old randy Andy…and the forever faithful Charles.:joy::rofl:

I don’t mean to judge them, just quoting what the whole world knows.

Boot them out is what I Say!..:joy::rofl:

What about Fergie and some bloke sucking her toes…I mean that certainly fits with .”your royal highness “ don’t it…:joy::+1::open_mouth:

Pauline I disagree with what the media do to either the royal family or any other human being and why I avoid reading those sort of articles as much as I can.

Some people enjoy the gossip, but these are the articles I love reading:

That’s ok if you like gushing sentimentality and sycophancy from the Daily Mail but that is not a good reason for an entire country to finance one wealthy family down through the generations .

But it’s okay to send billions of pounds to finance a foreign war while British citizens will die of the cold and lack of food this winter? The cost of HS2 would have kept the whole country in power and food for years to come and you complain about a few million quid to support a family who arguably justify their existence with their service to the country…Unbelievable!
