Well, it’s a good job they were interrupted…they did scuttle away from each other when I put the light on The other one was climbing up the bedroom wall. I tried to hoover it up but missed it, which was annoying. I live in an old house which has vents in the walls, so this is where they get in. I’m not allowed to block them up because of the boiler.
@PixieKnuckles have you considered something like this 4 Pcs Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh Panels Metal Insect Mesh Sheet Pest Control Mesh Filter Sheet Drain Cover Mesh Fine Wire Mesh Rodent Proof Mesh Rodent Wire Mesh For Air Bricks A5 (150 X 210Mm) : Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science
Hope your Mrs is OK Graham
I’m awake as usual at this time…im not sure if its insomnia or maybe its just become a habit
Years ago I was frightened of spiders till one moved into my bedroom during some very cold weather & I couldn’t kill him. I called him Cecil & he stayed for a couple of weeks, not sure where he disappeared to, but I missed saying “good morning, Cecil” every day.
These days I have huge ones coming in, so I just give them names and they don’t bother me. If they get in the bath, they can’t climb out, so I rescue them and put them out, but only when the weather is ok.
Thanks @Kazz I didn’t know you could get such a thing! I did think of putting a square of muslin over the vents, but these wire mesh panels are much better
I give mine names too…“Out!” is quite a common one
I’m glad you can be comfortable around spiders, @Twink55 but when I read they can lay up to 2,000 babies I decided that wee ones need a lot more space than my little house can give them
Everyone’s so engrossed on their phones they didn’t even notice Meghan Markle sitting amongst them .
I have had a few lay eggs, but when they hatch, they seem to disappear very quickly. I suspect that many of them die, but I believe that some will eat their siblings so you don’t see many babies.
I wish I could relax around spiders but unfortunately I can’t…I have tried bit alas if one is in a room it has to go before I can relax…sorry Mr Spider
Have just got a couple of minor chores left, but have drained CH system, and put cleanser in which I’ll flush out in a day or two and replace with inhibitor. Then I’ll call for our annual boiler service, safe in the knowledge that he won’t whinge about the colour of the water.
Have also booked a hotel in Scarborough for a night away in a couple of weeks.
Tuition later, and Mrs Dex is cooking us honey chilli pork for tea.
Also, we’ve started to scour around the house for old, disused phones, tablets and laptops. Might as well sell them now and use the cash for something worthwhile.
When Mr or Mrs Spider contribute to the energy bills, I’ll let them stay in the house…
Early start (7:00am) and out on the road bike for something special this morning. Instead of my usual 15 miles, I did the longer route of 22 miles. Unable to get my bike computer working it was a good job I had strapped on my GPS. I sped off on normally busy roads, but only the odd car this morning. I passed through the pit village where I was born, and spent my early teenage years, and on to the next village where I did my apprenticeship in a small engineering establishment. It seemed a long way to bike to work in those days, about five miles, and it hasn’t changed all that much. Although the small engineering works has long gone and been replaced by some three storey flats…Sorry, ‘Apartments’ these days…
I was now proceeding down an endless straight country road that seemed to go on forever, not much traffic here since it was replaced by the M18 motorway which I passed over and then later under. I finally arrived at the bridge over the M62 to Hull and turned off to the right down a very deserted, middle of nowhere country road. I was making very good time, but without my bike computer I reckon I was averaging 13 or 14 mile per hour.
The circulation to my extremities hasn’t been very good of late, probably due to my heart complaint and the beta blockers I take to correct it. Consequently my hands have gone numb, and a quick shake and stretch seems to help and warm them up a bit. The breeze doesn’t seem to be coming from any direction and although it’s been very little help, it hasn’t been a hindrance either with some very fast sections. But fast sections are always followed by slow ones, so I shift down the gears and struggle on.
The sun only broke through the cloudy sky occasionally, but still very nice weather for a bike ride. I had soon joined up with my 15 mile route and recognised all the lumps bumps and potholes you learn to avoid, and with about 6 miles left I bumped up the gears and gave it some…There are two diss-used railway bridges on route (thanks to Dr Beeching) and I arrived at the first. Just a short sharp climb, the only undulating parts of the whole ride, but I like to stand up on the pedals and push hard to the top.
I arrived at the second and started the ascent, but my foot slipped out of the gripper just as I was putting on the power and brought the chain off…I dismounted, stopped the GPS, and replaced the chain. It was a good job it hadn’t broken or it would mean walking the last 4 miles home. Actually it was nice to have a breather, and as I stood in perfect silence, on the top of the railway bridge, way out in the country, it felt so peaceful and relaxing.
I was soon up and moving again with the wind whistling past my ears. It’s hard to hear traffic coming up behind you when riding fast with the wind loud in your ears, but if you tilt your head to the side, that sound you thought you could hear comes roaring past and you hope that they leave you enough room for wobbles or potholes.
I turn into my drive and stop the GPS. 22.27 miles in 1 hour 48 mins. A bowl of porridge and a hot shower and not much else for the rest of Sunday…
Pottering, that’s what Sunday’s are for.
Cleaning my chain before a smearing of dry lube, charging up the lights etc.
I’m about to zest three limes for dinner, Chilli lime baked chicken wings with runny honey
Decided it was about time to see if I could fix a power drill that hasn’t worked for about 30 or 40 years. Thank goodness I have a large rubish receptical box in my garage
@OldGreyFox
Enjoyed your write up Foxy , almost felt myself riding like the clappers to keep up . Takes me back to my cycle days .
Not a lot, cold, wet, miserable. With more to come.
Ah, that’s Scotland for ye! ! I think it was like that for my family - some in Perthshire and some are in the Outer Hebrides. It was quite cold here (Yorkshire) this morning - 11C when we walked the dog.
We are not the kind of people to know or care. We just want good Cantonese food for under a tenner.
Red phone … are you expecting a call from the white house?
erm … Batman or someone?
I was going to continue to clean my loft space, then I got a phone call from my friend, asking if I could clean her beauty salon, well, I couldn’t say NO to that could I……it needed a good deep clean…everything pulled out…
I’m looking at how lovely and pristine that room is,Chiliboot.
