When did you plant them ?
November last year , this is the last time i shall repot , I dont want to disturb the roots anymore , i shall cut the bottom out the pot if the roots reach there when i put them out in the garden , and let the roots grow into the ground .
Grown from last years seed gathering , everyone took , in a seed compost .
Anyone started their Tomato seed off yet?
I was thinking whether to do mine or not, then saw I hadnât got any seed left!
So off I went to the local garden centre this afternoon and bought some fresh seed.
I like a couple of Cherry toms plants, and a couple of larger tomatoes for slicing for myself, but then I always grow about 10 extra plants for a friend of mine too.
No I havenât. Keep meaning to each year but never get around to it.
I just buy some plants now from our local nursery and bring them on.
We grow cherries and moneymakers.
I had to laugh. This reminded me of my old manâs first visit to Australia. He was a very keen gardener with a garden and allotment devoted to produce (absolutely no flowers), he built three large greenhouses (brick walls and raised beds, not your flimsy things you lot have ) purely to grow tomatoes.
When he visited he was nearly apoplectic with rage to discover tomato plants growing from my compost heap laden with fruit, unstaked and totally ignored by me. As I tried to explain to him tomatoes are like lemons, if you have to buy them you havenât got any friends - they grow outdoors like a weed.
Iâll start mine in the middle of next month, I only grow cherry ones, the big ones donât ripen in time before the autumn and the snails seem to like them more.
I started mine last week @Mups , a little early perhaps depending on the sort of spring that we have, but I can always start some more off at the beginning of March. I am only growing âGardeners Delightâ cherry tomatoes this year, I normally grow a couple of varieties but decided to use the space for something else, maybe auberginesâŠ
They are nice those Gardeners Delight, arenât they Barry. I usually grow those too, but this year I am trying two new varieties, hope i donât regret it.
Gardeners Delight are the ones I grow as well, lovely taste and I love the smell in the greenhouse when I go to open it up in the mornings. Far too early for me to get started though.
Iâm putting mine outside at the end of may so I wonât do them yet, but for greenhouse yes you can.
Itâs too cold up here on the North Coast of Scotland. We have way to much snow at the moment. Your weather down south is always warmer.
Helped hubby to prune one of the apple trees and cutting it all up. I didnât throw the cuttings away I put them in a pile in the garden at the back for insects.
Moved my pots with narcissus, hyacinth and crocus in, from the bottom of the garden to places where we can see them
Had a delivery of 4 Hebes , planted them in large Pots. They are Evergreen so bring some colour to the Garden
Gave the grass a scarifying then cut it on a high setting, after all the rain its was surprising dry .
I like Hebeâs too, Eliza. As you say, itâs a bit of greenery in winter too.
Repaired my greenhouse earlier, and this afternoon I will set some parsnip seeds in one of the raised beds.
Nothing today itâs raining
I need to get some weed and feed for the grass, but have to make sure Alf doesnât get it on his paws, will have to spread it last thing at night when its raining, probably wonât now I want to do that.
scattered yellow poppy seeds that I collected last year .and ordered 6 bags of miracle garden compost + a Viburnum Titus.
