Mups I have been toiling in the garden all morning and still only done a small bed .
The grass had got in so I had to dig to get its roots out .
Having a coffee break now
This reminded me of a story I read about Bamboo getting a hold in a garden and basically destroying an entire house, causing thousands of pounds of damage.
Apologies for the derailment
Cut some more leaves off the hellebores.
It’s sort of gardening
I don’t do much in the garden at this time of year - too cold! - but Storm Malik and Storm Corrie had kindly dried off all the dead leaves fallen from the trees on all parts of the lawns and flowerbeds and blown them all into one neat pile in the corner of my patio.
So while the sun was shining yesterday morning and the wind had died down, I was able to gather them all up very easily and put them in the compost bin, before some other errant wind had scattered them asunder again.
Thank you, January winds! - what with the wind clearing up my leaves and the birds clearing out my gutters, my outdoor area is becoming quite low maintenance!
Mother Nature can be so helpful at times, eh?
I have killed my back there is a reason people get gardeners
Got some hoeing done, but not as much as i wanted.
Also got my new Rhododenderon repotted.
I went to pot on some African Violet cuttings which are ready now, but found I had no more houseplant compost, so will have to get some tomorrow now.
I had a count up today, and I have got 45 houseplants at the mo!!
I didnt realise I had got quite that many. I really must stop taking cuttings!
@Muddy sorry to hear about your back, hope that it’s better soon.
@Mups yes we can get carried away with cuttings. A few years ago I did some of the blackcurrant bush but don’t know where i will put them.
Finished cutting the leaves off the hellebores around the front, dug up some spurge that spreads too much with the root runners and dug up a rotten tree stump.
Dug over and weeded 3 raised vegetable beds, plus repaired the brassica cage damaged in the high winds last weekend.
Went out with my coffee, had a good look around at all that needs to be done.
Came back in…
I ignored it all together!
The Fushia cuttings i did last year rooted well in water all took .
They are all potted up in compost now and have took off ,I keep them on the Kitchen window sill , because my green house is un heated .
I also set some Sweet Peas last November , I read that over wintering them make better plants , they were left in the Green House and are now out growing the pots ,
The Fushias ,
Sweetpeas
Looking good Eliza
Logan , I have you to thank , it was after you mentioned starting Fushias off in Water I gave it a try .
I was surprised how easy it was , my first time ever of taking cuttings this way .
I started off by just taking a couple of 2inch cuttings , put them in the smallest jar i could find and just after a week the first roots started to form , when they had enough roots i put them in Seed and cutting compost . I did this several times till i filled the kitchen sill up , I now have them in miracle grow , and will have some lovely plants to put out in better weather .So a big Thank you .
I wasn ‘t planning to do any gardening today, but ended up pruning some of my roses, and hoeing loads of bloomin’ Chickweed out from between the Wallflowers.
That particular front bed always gets loads of the stuff.
How come cold winters, frosts, snow, droughts, floods, and everything else nature throws at us, kills much loved plants but the weeds still thrive!
Hi
Nothing, Wendy and Clara have been here this afternoon, but the lawn is so waterlogged step on it and it turns to mud.
I am getting behind.
After very heavy rain I’ve admired a new water feature, standing water, still February is fill dike month.
