Was going to give the lawn a high cut, but got re tasked by management.
Just finished replacing a couple of fence posts and made a new gate. Tomorrow I have to raise the height of a fence around my veg plot as Oscar has discovered that he can leap it as it is, and then I can get on with finishing getting the raised beds ready for planting⊠happy daysâŠ
You may regret that with wet weather on the way again.
Found two of my tubs with the wretched Vine Weevals yesterday. Awful things, that eat the plant roots and eventually kill the plant.
Trouble is, we very often donât even know they are there until the plant starts dying and you can just lift it off the soil surface because the roots are gone! Horrid things.
Better start checking all my other tubs now.
I had them in my soil last year and like you say you dont know till the plant becomes stunted or dies , I bought Nematodes from Amazon , they arrive in Dry form , you mix them with water and pour over the ground , they feed on the weavles till they have gone , then the Nemotodes die cause they no longer have anything to feed on .
Eliza, I found the only trouble with the Nematodes was you canât use them until the soil warms up a bit more, else the Nematodes themselves die in the cold.
I think it has to be over 5 degs for a while, doesnât it?
At the mo, we get a few mild days, then it turns frosty at night again.
We get nematodes for vine weevil from green gardener and they only send them out when the temperature is right, I think that itâs next month or it could be April.
Itâs best to do it in the autumn as well, but I always forget or can order them both together and theyâll send it out at the right time.
Just finished raising the height of the fence around the veg garden to prevent Oscar from leaping over it. Hopefully now get some planting done later this week if it stays mildâŠ
Potted on 8 blackcurrant plants and potted up 8 redcurrant cuttings, I thought that they would have had more roots on them but no.
Dug up 3 gooseberry bushes that donât fruit and planted 2 lupins, 1 knautia, 2 aquilegia and 3 hardy fuchsias in their place.
Very little time today, and it hasnât stopped raining since last night either, so all I have done is sow some seeds indoors.
Sowed some Sunflowers, Cineraria, and a few more Everlasting Sweet Peas (perennials).
I sowed 3 tomato varieties a few days back, and some Cosmos seeds too.
Next it will be time some early cut and come again salad leaves, and possibly some early carrots soon.
set 2 trays of Cosmos in my green house,
Gave the grass a trim, intend to give it a good weed and feed , we are away for a week so the dog wonât walk in/on it .
Mine seems to have grown quite a bit now, too. Iâve been putting it off till itâs a bit warmer out there!
Sowed some Calendula seeds and Snapdragon seeds in seed trays inside in the propagators.
weeded the gravel path, gave the permanent containers a liquid feed, weeded the ferneries, well nearly another hour or so needed, weeded the alpines and put new gravel in, was sunny all day but a bit chillie, spread some wild yellow rattle seed an the uncut areas of the wild garden, had coffee and biccies sat out there
Iâm going to do mine in a weeks time.
Nothing manky weather
I cleared out an overgrown corner, but spent more time sitting in the sun if Iâm honest Iâll try again todayâŠmaybe if I wore a hat that would make me feel more industrious.
I canât get motivated today. It needs to be a bit warmer for me.
I suppose I could trim or re-shape round the edges of the lawn though, that always makes it look instantly smarter at least.
