What book are you reading now?

A Christmas gift, Unnatural Causes by Dr Richard Shephard and it really is very interesting.

I finished The Girl on the Train and enjoyed it immensely. The only problem was the dates - I have a poor memory for dates and had to keep referring to the previous chapter but apart from that it was a gripping story about some very flawed people.

Once I had finished the book I watched the movie, the location had been changed from the UK to 'Merica and the main character didn’t fit the book description but not a bad film of the book as films of books go.

BTW if you do decide to watch the movie make sure you get the right one there are two with the same name you want the 2016 movie not the 2013 one which is a different story altogether.

I forgot to mention that the Ruth Galloway series can be read as stand alone novels but there are recurring themes that start in the first one “The Crossing Places”.

Just started “The Girl from Munich” by Tania Blanchard

It starts in 1943 and is about a girl proudly working for the Luftwaffe who is planning her wedding just as the Third Reich starts to fall apart and she is eventually forced to flee.

Apparently inspired by a true story. So far seems pretty readable and interesting.

It was a best seller a couple of years ago according to the cover.

Anyone else read it?

I am about a third of the way through “The Girl from Munich” mentioned previously and it is a real page turner, can’t put it down.

Highly recommend it.

I am reading a kids book, well teen really, called Racing Manhattan by Terence Blacker, surprised it’s by a man actually, as it’s about a young girl who is a horse whisperer. It’s so far very good & as I love books with horses in I am enjoying it.

One Night Gone by Tara Laskowski is a “subtly but relentlessly unsettling” mystery.

A fired television meteorologist goes to a small ocean side town for the summer, and becomes entwined in the wealthy residents life which includes a carnival girl gone missing thirty years ago.

I am two thirds through and can’t seem to find the clue to what happened to the missing girl. Good read.

We’ve read quite a few Stuart MacBride books, love the humour in them :023:

Will look out for that one :023:

Shout at the Devil - Wilbur Smith

An old book I bought from a charity shop .

I am still reading Chick-Lit, it’s escapism.:lol::lol: Get through 3 books a week.

I am currently halfway through "Into the Water" another mystery by Paula Hawkins. She wrote “The Girl on the Train” which I enjoyed very much.

When I have finished that I have an ebook “The Girl who Takes an Eye for an Eye” by David Lagercrantz. He has taken over the Millennium Series after the death of Stieg Larsson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc).

Not a usually a fan of books taken over by another author but I read “The Girl in the Spider Web” and it wasn’t bad.

Muddy,
Unless I’m mistaken I have read every one of Wilbur Smiths novels. My personal favorites are 1st) River God,
2nd) The Sunbird, 3rd) The Seventh Scroll

Just finished Michael Morpurgo’s book Shadow & I cried. Bought it for £1 at a flea market.

I’m about 150 pages into “All That’s Dead” by Stuart MacBride, in hardback, which I bought for £2 at our local hospice’s charity shop. The book was actually new, signed by the author (although you couldn’t tell who from the scribble ) and unread until I started to read it the other night.

Someone with similar tastes to us in books donates them to our local charity shop. A lot of them are up to date paperbacks :023: they charge 30p for them! And 50p for hardbacks. Sadly because of this I hardly ever go to the library these days.

I haven’t been to the library for years. I buy books in charity shops, at flea markets & from friends. I also buy from supermarkets & garden centres, the latter often have a bench with cheap paperbacks The Works is another good place to buy books from.

Ditto. In our case, you can add worldofbooks.co.uk to your list.

I brought a pile of books (mostly crime & thrillers) to the charity book desk in our local Tesco today. By the time we had done a short shop they were all gone! I just hope the peeps who bought them put a decent amount in the money box.

I buy from Amazon too.

Our local Co-op used to have one, but they got rid of it for some reason.:frowning: Never seen one in our Tesco though.:frowning:
