What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 2)

Does anyone recall having a “dip in the fat” ie piece of bread dipped into the fat the beef was cooking in sprinkled with salt normally?

As I have had this terrible cold/flu thing for well over a week now today is first day I fancy something to eat and think I can eat it so cooking a chicken (making soup as well later) will have with roasters mash and gravy and carrots I think.

Of course, a Beef Dripping sarnie, yummy.

When the meat was hot and just about to remove meat and add roasters to the tin if recall

Not sure of the exact process, but the gorgeous smell just came back.

Good Lord that’s exactly what my brother said he phoned to see how I was and said they are having beef for dinner and he may have a dip in the fat, as the smell of the meat brought it back.

A rare treat I have to say brought us in from outside playing as children, I wonder if it was a way to curb appetites back in the day like having Yorkshire pudding before a meal. Stale bread was always best as well

Yep, back then you burnt the Cholesterol off before eating your Dripping Sandwich.

Dinner is served. :grinning:

Elegant!

Made my first ever game terrine from pheasant, partridge, rabbit and venison. Oh and cooked some chutney too. Was pretty tasty luckily :yum:

Enjoy Swimmy, I love a steak but I like mine to have some fat on it such as sirloin or ribeye, fillet is much too lean for my liking.

Totally with you there fat for flavour. LOL

Lunch = was the last of the Pumpkin soup with an egg/cress sandwich.

Dinner - was good old fashioned bangers and mash, with carrots , tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms

Note to self - buy another pumpkin!
