What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

So true Uncle Joe and not battered fish with curry sauce. But we all have different tastes.

I love battered fish with curry sauce but must have chips too.

I rarely have fish with curry sauce, but it’s just what I fancied tonight for a change.

Tomorrow’s thought for din-dins will be roast beef etc, but I could change my mind and have a fresh salmon fillet, asparagus and sweetcorn and, if I can be bothered, I’ll make some Hollandaise sauce again as my first attempt was quite successful a few weeks ago.

Salmon fillets every time for me dusted in dried dill and lemon juice with a bit of grated zest and done in the microwave for a couple of mins, in plastic bag with drop of white wine or even water. will go with asparagas, but not a lover of sweetcorn, and Jersey royal pots, with lashings of proper butter, who cares about clogged
arteries at my age. Blast am at son’s for tea tomorrow.

Well I’ve only got one salmon fillet left lass, so I couldn’t invite you this time!

I’ve not been very adventurous with fish, to be honest, but I do keep trying different things, when time allows.

Problem is, I’m usually too tired to experiment when I get home from work, so quickest is bestest for me.

I’ll go for fresh food every time and your choice sounds just up my street but without the butter, but then again a personal choice.

Mollie I’m not daft my best friend is a chef, he gives me recipes when requested. I do experiment sometimes but if I want a quick fix ask Glyn  and I always keep fresh salmon in freezer.

I only buy the frozen salmon from Lidl which is microwaveable in a bag. I can’t afford the “real” thing, but it tastes pretty good.

I don’t like to buy frozen bagged fish with sauces though, like parsley sauce, or dill sauce, or owt like that.

Many years ago, you could buy boil in the bag cod in a prawn sauce. Now that was good!

Stand by for the food critics!

Food critic here:lol:. Boil in the bag food back then or now is not the best. But if you have no time because of work commitments then I think it is preferably to take away fast food, in my opinion but I stand to be corrected.

Nothing wrong with frozen salmon but I get mine Bolton Market Sat afternon 1/2 price descaled, head and tailed all bones back please yes I’m tight. Skeleton and head boiled in water then rice put in water till cooked, salmon taken off bones and all mixed together, almost free supper for 3 dogs, none small. Or cover the flakes of salmon in melted butter & you’ve got potted salmon nearly free.

Oh I could tell you a tale here now. Years ago we lived in Worcester and mum came down for a week. We decided on fish for tea so went to McFisheries. Remember them? Anyway, she asked for a whole cod and the young lass grabbed one and started to wrap it up.

My mum stopped her and said: “Are ya not goin’ to gut it and take the skin off?” The young girl said she didn’t know how to do that! Me mum rolled up her sleeves, went behind the counter, grabbed a sharp knife, told her to ger’owt o’t way, and proceeded to teach the lass how to skin and gut a fish!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Then mum says: “Now ya can weigh it and wrap it up!” Quite a character, my mum!

What an economist. Well done:-D

My favourite cousin invited me for dinner today and we had a lovely reindeer casserole.

Sorry couldn’t resist was it better than ugly reindeer casserole.??

Tight as a preverbial fish’s, is what I’m normally known as. But was discussing with a friend today how families could save money and we said if they could cook as we did, not taught cos mum never taught me to cook, learnt after I got married. They could afford to feed the children without going to help shops.

Oh Anna darlin’ - that sounds fabulous!!! - like Venison I presume - a lovely meat. Making my mouth water just thinking of it.

I have tried venison and found it a little too rich and I to presume that reindeer will be very similar.
I have seen both on sale. I would like to try kangaroo and ostrich meat but I have never seen any of those on sale.
I do like to try different kinds of food and have eaten horse meat, snails, frogs legs and other weird creatures. I think I would draw the line at insects though:lol:

Mall darlin’ - Kangaroo and Ostrich meat are fabulous and each has its own very unique flavour. Both are very healthy as there is no fat on the meat whatsoever. The butcher just down the road from me obtains both among others too, so f’r instance I’ve also had Buffalo (but this is just a slightly stronger tasting beef), Eland, Kudu and Wildebeeste. These too also have their own unique flavour and like the Kangaroo and Ostrich are also very healthy for the same reason, that they lack any fat. If cooked very slowly in a slow cooker, the meat is so tender it falls off the fork.

In that case I will have to “Hunt down” these other beasts and give them a try.

Mall darlin’ - whilst travelling to a hospital appointment yesterday, saw a few rabbits out in the fields. Unfortunately didn’t have a gun with me otherwise I’d be munching on Rabbit casserole today.
