I’ve had home-made chicken tikka for tea, and I had some golden rice with it and home-made madras sauce.
Was at the hospital yesterday for my pre-op assessment - since it took a fair bit of time to complete, it meant I was at the hospital over the lunch period, so I availed myself of their restaurant (yes it is open to the public!!!). Meal was very good and very reasonable in cost - less than £4.00 for a chicken breast cooked in honey and vegetables. I did go back and get a sweet - steamed sponge pudding and custard and that too was (a) very good, (b) very reasonable - less than £3.00.
Aldi had some puddings from The Great British Pudding Co. I had a chicken and leak and he that is mighty had steak and kidley. Excellent value for 1.99 with mash and a nice bit of Bisto
Making my Not-quite-minestrone soup, plus a roll and tossed salad.
Ive got a beef stew in the slo cooker today which smells lovely and with the wind howling outside seems quite appropriate. To be followed by the tin of roses while I watch X Factor. Unless I can get off my lazy backside and make a rice pudding which I really fancy.
What’s ‘not quite’ Eileen? hee hee
For our tea we’ve just had sardines on toast with a slice of Victoria sponge to follow…excellent fare indeed…
It has stuff in it that isn’t in a proper by-the-book minestrone, and missing some stuff that should be. I really should call it my Kitchen Sink soup, as that is a better description! Everything but …
Onions, celery, carrots, cannellini beans, lentils, barley, cabbage, sweet corn, tomatoes, cauliflower, tiny pasta shells, ham, chicken broth. Clove and a few peppercorns to flavor the broth. Yum!
Oh, just realized I forgot to add the finely shredded mozzarella cheese on the serving!
Aha, I see now … actually that soup you’ve made sounds wonderful. I’ve said this before somewhere I think, you really do eat healthy foods Eileen.
I try! But with lapses: enjoying the bought chocolate cream pie which has preservatives, additives and artificial whipped cream … but is oh so good!!
With the very greatest respect Uncle Joe, should you be eating sponge pudding and custard with a heart operation imminent, especialy as you were awaiting a pre-op assessment for your heart?
I’ve read your other posts of what you eat, but I’m sure they aren’t the healthy option considering your condition.
Okay, so I’m not your mother, but please do consider your eating habits chuck.
Mollie darlin’ - not a HEART operation I’m having - but a HIP replacement (revision) - this one is leeching chromium into my blood stream.
For lunch today, as its Sunday - full Sunday roast - chicken, parsnips, potatoes and onions with some more steamed veg and gravy. I have an individual Xmas pudding and some Rum or Brandy sauce - not sure which to choose.
Rainbow trout, fresh spinach, potatoes rissole, roll, chocolate pie.
Roast chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts, broccoli, carrots, sage & onion stuffing… followed by apple pie and custard for those who wanted it.
Sounds lovely DM , I am very fond of trout cooked simply with butter/lemon/ parsley.
Just had grilled Welsh lamb chops with garlic and rosemary, creamed potatoes with chives, purple sprouting broccolli, my own beans from the freezer and pears/walnuts /Stilton for pudding
uncul joe did they give you your opertion date
No Pixie darlin’ - not yet - so its looking more and more likely to be January rather than December.
I have to side with Mollie here Uncle Joe, as you have mentioned lots of other health issues and I have often wondered if you should be more concerned with a more healthy diet. Don’t want to tell granny how to suck eggs as my dear old mum used to say but it is nice to know we care.
Cate Darlin’ I love my food as you no doubt have discovered. However will be losing some of this weight whilst I’m being fed hospital food over Xmas and New Year.
I’m sure you will, Uncle Joe; I wasn’t in that long and lost about 10 pounds! Combination of liquid-only diet before tests and just unappetizing food.
Dinner tonight: linguini with pesto, tossed salad, roll.
