Had some new bacon for lunch on brown seeded granary, can’t seem to find a tasty bacon lately but this air dried from Sainsbury was very nice.
Tonight I’m having sausages with mash and broccoli OH is having a steak pudding with mash and peas… he’s a very fussy eater but I’m used to it after all this time… might make a rhubarb crumble shortly , shouldn’t really but I do love a proper pudding in this cold weather.
Tonight was left overs, some minestrone soup that I made earlier in the week and potato gnocchi with spinach.
Rhubarb crumble sounds great Hermione, one of my favourites and I really fancy some now.
I agree about the bacon Hermione. Some are tasteless with too much water added. Spoilt Pig bacon is nice :-D. From Morrison’s.
Cold weather makes you want hearty food :-D. Puddings and pies!
Today we are having Braising Steak which is in the oven now as it takes 3 hrs. to cook, with boiled potatoes, swede and French beans.
I’ve just had breakfast, so I’ll probably just wait until tonight and have dinner at the hotel. They do great burgers, so I’ve a feeling that’ll be it as I’m a burger fanatic and haven’t had one this year yet! Needs to be good ones though :-p
For dinner, Beef & Lentil casserole with a savoury scone topping. No plans for lunch.
Cheese roll for lunch then tonight a Morrisons liver, bacon and mash.
Tomorrow I will have to start getting stuff out of the freezer, to make room as much as anything but also cos I should really wait till next Friday pensiond day.
Tonight we are having Shredded duck with pancakes ,served with hoisin sauce.
Then we are having Fresh Prawns with a Marie Rose sauce. Jacket potatoes also served if needed.
Yummy, my mouth is watering thinking of it .
:-p:-p
Tonight I’m having stir fry with chicken in sweet and sour sauce, DH is having fish cakes and home made chips.
Had tomato soup with granary toast… sorry about the butter…
I thought that everyone would be having Haggis, Tatties & neeps in honour of the Bard. No ? I’m not either because I don’t like haggis.
Haddock & chips tonight, with my special beer batter.
Might have a dram later!
I haven’t planned my evening meal yet but had tomato and basil soup for lunch topped with Stilton cheese, it’s gone a long way seeing as I only paid 9 pence for a large chunk!
We’re having a pre-Burns night dinner. Haggis, neeps and tatties.
“Some he meat and canna eat
And some wad eat that want it
But we hae meat that we can eat
And sae the Lord be thankit”
A nice malt to wash it down Alice ??
;-)
Definitely Apricot! A wee dram ![]()

Today we are having homemade Sausage Stew, which is cooking now.
I’m having haggis pakora for dinner.
About an hour ago I browned four nice little shoulder shanks and bunged 'em in the crock pot with some lamb stock. They will sit there nicely doing their thing until tonight when will be served with mash and assorted veggies, followed by a slice of home made custard tart.
Im going to ruin all the diets now…
You know that left over advocaat you have from Christmas? well have you ever thought of making a cake with it?
ok here goes…you need
250ml of sunflower oil,
250grms of sugar
5 eggs,
250grms flour
15grms (3tsp) baking powder and 200 mls of advocaat.
Mix the oil sugar and eggs to a creamy mass, then set the mixer to a slow speed and pour the advocaat in slowly mixing all the time.
having sieved the flour and baking powder into a sperate bowl add this slowly to the egg advocaat mix and mix until its a creamy yellow mass.
It should look like thickish custard by this stage…
Pour the mix into a greased 22cm cake tin and put it in the bottom of a med oven 160c for hotair or 180c for normal electric oven for 50 mins-1hr cool for 10 mins…Enjoy
Today I should have been cooking a beef casserole in the slow cooker but I forgot to take the meat out of the freezer yesterday. Out all day until quite late, being wined and dined by my friends. Getting me into bad habits they are. Had some wine with the pizza (plus a diet coke) then I was given a large serving of Baileys on ice back at the house. The lady friend had most of the bottle of wine, a sambucca in the Pizza place then she poured herself a large glass of sambucca back home. My, was she merry!!!
Man friend was driving me home so he had coffees and water. Sensible lad.
Will have to think of something else and get it out today for later cooking.
