What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

Well, as predicted, I have developed my sons cold, which in addition to usual symptoms has given me a sore throat and made me lose my voice, and the blocked nose/catarrh has interrupted sleep so am a bit like a zombie. What has this got to do with today’s meal I hear you ask?

Well had got the ingredients for, and planned to have beef stroganoff with tagliatelle, but having gone back to bed around 3 pip emma, I actually woke up around five/ten mins ago and was lying here contemplating whether I could persuade my son to brave the elements and get take out, when he opened bedroom door, letting in delicious smell of the strog. Bless him, I know I often get mad at him for things, but there are times when he really comes up trumps!

Well we are having Sweet ‘n’ Sour Chicken with Noodles and Prawn Crackers.

Punjabi five spice chicken stir fry with rice noodles.

Roast Gammon, R. Potatoes, R. Parsnips, B. Onion, Peas, Swede & Gravy.

And tonight Pizza.

Cider braised spare ribs.

Fajitas ( made by OH )

Similar, only I’m calling it stir fry…

I’ll add the noodles and serve on rice.

Just had some …

popcorn

Nooooo!
:!:
Might make some meself!

Do you put the popcorn in cold, or start up the heater first, then drop the corn in? (Never used it and no instructions found.)

Eeeeek!! :shock::shock:

Wasn’t expecting that! Had the chute over a large mixing bowl, but it still managed to chuck some out onto the floor and onto the worksurface, till I draped a teatowel over it all!

Should have put the sugar in first as well, as it wasn’t the same adding it afterwards.

Still, first attempt not bad. Now need to work out how to make my kitchen bomb proof!!! Will probably be finding bits of popcorn for days to come.

I use a popcorn maker - sounds like you do too?

I first of all catch the popcorn in a big bowl which I shake thoroughly so that the rock hard unopened kernels drop to the bottom, I then scoop the fluffy opened popcorn to another bowl. I do this to reduce the chance of biting down on a hard kernel as it can crack your teef! You have been warned!

As for giving the popcorn a coating of sorts the jury is still out on that one. I have experimented with adding sunflower oil and salt to a bowl of hard kernels and mixing that in. That works to some extent as it gives the popcorn a slightly salty taste without me ingesting too much salt but it does make the popcorn maker and plastic screen a bit mucky after a while. As for mixing with sugar I tried a bit of oil and icing sugar but that can cause the popcorn to bind inside or at the top of the maker, though it does work if you don’t add too many kernels at one time.

To save all that bother why not just buy a large bag of Butterkist Sweet and Salty Popcorn. The two flavours mixed together are really tasty. I am addicted to it and got another bag in the cupboard for tomorrow night! Hubby on nights so bag to myself!!! :-D:-D

Just be careful, as Mark says, of the uncooked kernels - not many of them though in there - but I DID break a tooth a week ago on one.:shock:

The best way to avoid such hazards is to eat something more healthy

There ain’t no such animal  .

I always used to buy a large bag of fresh popcorn (salted and sweet mixed) when out shopping, but would inevitably waste most of it! This way, I only made a small amount. It always tastes much better when made fresh.

Popcorn is healthy, without additions. Low in fat, high in fubre. It’s when we start adding the sugar and stuff that makes it bad. I was hoping to use it for its fibre qualities.

I’m cooking lamb rogan josh for tonight’s dinner. I’ve got the lamb marinating in yoghurt, lemon and garlic. Ideally, it should be left overnight, but I forgot to get the yoghurt yesterday.

Serving it with Tarka dahl, naan and rice.

What about using runny honey ? honey

Taking me little sis to a carvery very shortly, so not sure what meat I will have. The beef always looks rare to me so I end up with turkey n pork. Plus all the veggies.

She turns 60 tomorrow. Too much illness, worry, sadness and stress in her life, glad she’s made it to a milestone birthday but sad Mum isn’t here to celebrate it. (And we all know what happened to MY 60th…:cry: )

Her children are doing something for her tomorrow so I asked if she wanted to go out for lunch today for my treat, she said yes.

For me personally, not a fan of honey.

I like a bit of honey in my porridge and it’s a natural antiseptic

Just thought it might stick on the kernels

Hope you enjoy lunch Janazzi ~ LOVE the turkey at the carvery we sometimes went to especially with their ratatouille
