What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

Fish 'n chips today!!!

Daughter is taking me out tonight for a meal…surprise so I am looking forward to it.

Last night we had boned and stuffed chicken thighs (boned and stuffed by me) with mash, broccoli, carrots, sweet corn and lashings of proper gravy. Not bad really especially as the thighs were only £3 for five huge pieces, from Iceland.

Vegetarian haggis , neeps and tatties

Nope …

Popcorn FTW

Did corned beef hash for meat eaters who don’t mind mixed foods and corned beef with mashed potatoes and peas all separate for my special meat eater LOL

Had egg mayo sandwich myself and made home made fish fingers, chips and peas for grand niece as her mum is doing over time today.

Full Sunday roast again today with perhaps a cherry lattice pastry and custard for ‘pudding’.

Having an Indian Take-away today, Chicken Tikka, Rice and Veg. Curry.

We have just had homemade Pork Lasagna, Rice and Spinach.

We are having Chicken Penicilian today, just starting to cook it now as it takes quite a long while.

‘Bangers & Mash’ today, but the man from Sainsburys called yesterday and brought me my Haggis and sweet potatoes ready for ‘Burns night’ on Saturday.

About to have a sarnie (lunch) ~ tinned salmon or tuna with iceburg lettuce and a little mayo

Not a fan of iceberg, find it rather tasteless, prefer either little gem or sweet gem. Talking of sarnies, I was musing on this the other evening whilst making some for supper. How tastes and budgets change. As a child I recall that for us kids sandwich fillings were mainly things like sauce, jam, or even just sugar (no specially purchased fillings for us). Ham came in two ways, sliced from the grocer on high days and holidays (e.g. Christmas, and Easter and maybe a wedding)and from a home boiled hock on lesser ‘occasions’. Either way dads sarnies had the choice slices, mum the lesser ones and us kids, if we were lucky, got the scrappy bits. At other times it was chopped ham or luncheon meat or even paste. Either way, there was none of this additional ingredients; tomatoes, lettuce, and salad cream (no mayo in those days) were each the component of their own, individual sandwich, as was cucumber, beetroot, cheese etc. why make one sandwich with several components when those ingredients could be stretched to make individual sandwiches? The only accompaniment I can recall was Coleman’s mixed from a little tin. As for ham and cheese in one sandwich! Heaven forefend the waste!

Oooooo and condensed milk sandwiches !!! good grief

I like the crunch of Iceburg in my sandwiches

I like Rocket in my sandwiches, it’s peppery.

Well Rachel, both sweet gem and little gem have really crisp crunchy stalks, and, sorry SJ I hate rocket, looks too much like dandylion leaves for my liking, and the bigger ones taste more bitter than peppery. Sadly it seems to be the ‘in’ ingredient nowadays, forever picking it out of my meal. However my sons dragon loves it lol.

Oh DM you ain’t lived if you haven’t had cheese and onion sarnies, and what about cheese and pickle??? and then there was SPAM (and pickle), then we also had (and I still do) have corned beef & onion, or corned beef and pickle (has to be Branston’s though).

As for single fillers we used to get chocolate spread in a waxed carboard carton (Nutella is not the same thing at all.

I don’t normally contribute to this thread, but just back from a lovely dinner of spicy buffalo cheeks and felt I had to let UJ know…

Doing steamed chicken breast with green beans and peas for meat eater, having tofu and broccoli salad myself.

Its a pity you couldn’t bring 'em back with you - I’d cook and eat ‘em!!! Ania darlin’.
