It’s actually a very healthy way to live. What isn’t right is trying to feed everyone like you feed yourself.
Thread should be about what we are all eating not telling everyone they are not eating enough or the right thing. If anyone wants advice they would ask.
Hubby’s cooking tonight and the smell from the kitchen is wonderful! Pork Chops, sauteed potatoes and green beans , possibly another veg too. We only have puds once a week when the grandkids come for dinner.
Sounds nice Val but like others, I have no appetite in this hot weather.
I cut off a big bowlful of my ‘cut and come again’ salad leaves. Added, cucumber, radishes, chives from the garden, then a handful of grapes and toms. Hard boiled eggs and some homemade wholemeal bread. Cold and tasty.
Got some strawberries to pick, if it cools a bit, with ice cream for tea.
I don’t do salads either, except on a very rare occasion.
Tonight I had a ferret around in my freezer and found a gradely pork chop. I hawked out a couple of potato croquettes as well and put them in my infra-red cooker along with some vine tomatoes to cook and made a mushroom and bacon sauce to which I added some chopped mushrooms, then shallowly fried the chop. M-mmmm. Deeelish!
I understand that if you enjoy juice more than the actual fruit then the juice only diet is fine. However, I eat a fruit bowl full of fruit each day and little else and enjoy the whole fruit and get advantages from the fibre which I think is important.
When I used my juicer I used to make things with the remaining pulp like fruit pies or soups and freeze them, so much of the product was wasted that in the end I gave my juicer away.
I am happy to say I can now smell food cooking!! And to give me a rest the wife is doing it today.
As we do most Sundays we’re having a few people round for Sunday dinner (the usual suspects; our daughter and her husband, my ex-mother in law and sister in law) and I have to say nobody should be disappointed tonight! Starter is leek and tattie (potato) soup, main is pot roasted beef with home-made Yorkshire Puddings and all the trimmings then desert is apple crumble and custard.
That sounds like a challenge… :-p I actually did enter an eating contest once but came down with salmonella poisoning the day before… No - IT WAS NOT AN EXCUSE, though nobody believed me
No Jim matey I’m not issuing a challenge, but if you read through all the food threads going back in time, you’ll see that I’m a gormand and LOVE my food!!! Others on here who know me will also confirm this.
I might just expand that to include Magpie if he doesn’t stay off my bird table !!
Don’t worry so, Uncle Joe, I am taking in the right amounts of carbs, proteins, vitamins etc., - just enjoying them raw as it is too darned hot to cook ! I tend to eat less in hot weather because I move less. I have just returned from a 6 mile walk and that is it now as the temperature is already too uncomfortable for me. Will hibernate in my Craft room for the rest of the day - it faces North and is, therefore, the coolest room in the house. Time we had some more snow !!
Darlin’ notwithstanding the heat, I still cook a full meal. Yesterday f’r instance, I cooked a full roast, chicken, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and onions and Blackberry & Apple pie & custard for ‘pudding’. As for walking or doing any exercise, that’s a no, no - arthritis has put paid to that many years ago.
If you take arthritis out of the equation doing a 6 mile walk after all that food would be very uncomfortable anyway UJ, for most of us the amount of food you eat would be impossible if we are to carry on our normal days and we would all put on loads of weight making life even harder than it needs to be.
Mollie you gave me a good chuckle at myself because when I first saw your post the first thing that popped out was I had a ferret, then I read the next bit and started to laugh. Your meal sounds wonderful. Those cookers are wonderful they don’t make the kitchen too hot in this warm weather.
That is why my walks are always at the crack of dawn - I like being out before the traffic - when the world is quiet and the air is fresh. This morning, for example, I walked all the way to the next village and back - and never saw a soul on the way there. A couple of cars passed as I was nearly home again.
