Making a frittata type thingy today with all the left overs and any veg I can find in the freezer , little cheese on top. Have a rasher of bacon left to put into meat eaters half too.
Since I missed out last Saturday on a fabulous Pork & Apple pie, having a friend coming to visit and dine with me today, so popped down the pie shop and bought a couple of these pies. Will do some mash potato and open a can of beans - so pie, mash and beans for Lisa (my friend) and I today.
I have been trying to have (oily) fish once or twice a week.
This week it’s sea bass. In previous weeks I have had wild salmon, trout, mackerel & sardines.
I choose a fresh fish from the local fish counter. I am not looking forward to eating the ones that stare back at me.
It is too much like the Harry Enfield Character for me “You don’t want to do it like that, you want to …”
It is funny you should say this RJ, we also seem to have been eating a lot of fresh fish lately. Recently discovered Sea Bass when local Tesco had them on offer at £2 each.
But answer me this, someone, anyone? On this fresh fish counter they frequently offer either the bass or rainbow trout @ £2 ea. Which they will then clean and fillet for free. Thus you will have 2 fresh fillets for £2. Yet, and here is the curiosity, on the same counter, to purchase fresh fillets of either fish costs around £12 per kilo? Maybe, just maybe the ‘freely’ prepared whole fish work out at that price anyway? Never asked that one, but have commented to the girls who serve the fish and even they cannot figure out the logic.
dAISY mAY,
oops
Do you mean that they gut the fish before weighing, I don’t think the manager would be very pleased.
Sorry, maybe did not make myself clear, One week the sea bass is priced at £2 per fish, which they will then clean/descale and fillet for you, but at the same time, on the same counter, are sea bass fillets priced at £12 per kilo; then on another week the same thing occurs with the rainbow trout, ie £2 per whole fish which they will then clean and fillet for free, whilst at the same time selling trout fillets at £12 per kilo.
Mixed vegetables in a low fat cheese sauce topped with a little mashed potato and cheese.
Served with a green salad.
Decisions, decisions, decisions: Do I have Bangers & Mash, burgers, bangers, mushrooms, eggs, beans & chips, Chicken curry and rice, steak & Kidney/Kangaroo/Ostrich casserole, spicy Pork Pilaff and rice???
Make it simple UJ, go for the Bangers and Mash with loads of Fried onions.
We are having Boiled Egg Salad tonight.
I have just cooked a smoked gammon joint for dinner later, the house smells lovely, can’t wait to eat it. Lunchtime I just had a Ham Roll.
Chicken stew for meat eaters (nephews are here tonight) and vegetable stew for me.
I went mad and did some baking yesterday (bad back usually makes it difficult as I cannot stand in one spot for very long - took nearly all day as had to frequently stop and sit down) so for lunch today I had one of the corned beef/potato/onion pasties with ploughmans pickle. Son has already eaten two and taken a third for his lunch today so thought I had better have one before they are all gone. And even though I says it as shouldn’t it was rather delicious.
Where’s mine DM???![]()

Chicken stew was so successful yesterday I am repeating it using stewing lamb so meat eater will be very happy today.
Interesting arrange of cheeses in sainsburys today so I have got some tinturn cheese, cheddar with shallots and onions which looks rather yummy so going to have some of that with salad.
The cheese sounds nice Julie, especially the cheddar with shallots, mmmmm

You would be very welcome and I can recommend the cheese it was lovely !
Having a huge wing of skate tonight fried in seasoned flour and butter with new potatos and a side-salad.
As summer has arrived, I shall be eating my favourite lunch of ham and coleslaw baguette and tonight pork chops in chinese sauce with stir fried veg and a jacket potato
