What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

I’ll be planting cut and come again soon but I had no idea Sainsbury’s or Tesco did them.
Chicken Kiev today, with a stir fry. Might make rice pudding as I’ve plenty of milk.

We have a poly tunnel so I will whack it in there. What a good idea.

We have just had a really lovely salmon salad for lunch.

Im having an old childhood favorite mashed potato’s bake beans and a fried egg on top. Real comfort food for a lazy day…Might even grate a little cheddar cheese on top…yum

Ohhhh that sounds nice - diet won’t allow me today but if I juggle calories tomorrow who knows …

Smoked haddock with mashed potatoes and peas.

I can’t stand Mash Potatoes, any idea of how I can make mash taste different, apart from Cheese and Onion bake? Susie J xx

Garlic is quite delish in mash. Or you could try a really creamy version by boiling a floury spud (Pipers or K Edward type) until they just start to break up, drain and place colander in pan and cover with a t.towel (to steam dry). Meanwhile warm some milk in the microwave. Then mash the potatoes with a good masher, until well and truly broken up, slowly add the warm milk whilst continuing to mash, then add butter and ‘beat’ with a balloon whisk until mash is light fluffy and delicious. Can add garlic or other flavours if liked.

Lots of butter and black pepper mashed in to potato and carrot 50/50 mash

Mustard mash is lovely, or I like a mix of carrots and potato mashed works well with celeriac too.

Susie darlin’ - try steaming/boiling: sweet potato, parsnip, celeriac, and swede together. When cooked and soft place in a bowl with a large knob of butter and mash them - absolutely delicious!!!

Swede and carrot mash is best.
I suddenly realised, after reading this thread, that I don’t like mashed potatoes either

I think I could make a meal of just that dish.

I threw together some cold gluten-free pasta, peas, tuna and a salad dressing of oil, vinegar and herbs for lunch, with sliced tomato and cucumber on the side. Brewed a big mug of peppermint tea and nibbled some almonds, dark chocolate, and a couple of dried apricots after.

Sue darlin’ - that mash is excellent with a haggis and gravy.

Having just roasted and ground my own spices to make a garam masala, I have made a lamb curry for tonight and it smells heavenly

Thank you all for your suggestions, apart from the Haggis!!!

We have just had Lamb Shank and Vegetables.

Portobello mushroom burger and salad for me, a homemade lamb burger with salad for meat eater.

Grilled trout and chunky chips here, well maybe, have been feeling off colour today so might just have a tin of soup and my son will just have to fend for himself, which I might add he is more than capable of doing.

Oh and jumping on the ‘mash’ thread, I love spuds, roast, plain boiled, jacket, chips (all shapes and sizes),new boiled in jacket with butter and maybe garlic/parsley, mashed with swede (fab with onion gravy) etc.etc.

The lovely man from Sainsburys delivered my shopping to me this morning. Amongst the things he brought me was a ‘Mississippi mud pie’ - absolutely scrumptious!!!

Chicken breast stuffed with garlic butter with stir fry veg and a chunk of sour dough bread to mop up the plate (and pan ;-))
