Sarah perked up when I suggested it, especially when I told her you do lamb with apricot jam and rosemary. My son-in-law, however, scowled til she said “Well, it would have to be the 3 of us”, nodding at me as well.
She loves to cook! Her first creative bit with food was at age 5. I asked her to carry a bowl of steamed cauliflower to the table. When we all sat down I noticed it was strewn with pink stuff, which turned out to be carnation petals from the bouquet in the middle of the table. She thought the cauliflower looked too plain!
Tonight was a rush so she ordered in pizza. For mine she chose gluten-free crust, no cheese, Thai sauce instead of pizza sauce, and toppings of spinach, onion and sun-dried tomatoes. Very, very tasty.
Sue darlin’ - wait till she tastes my ‘safari’ casserole!!! - Made with either Water buffalo, Eland, Impala, Kangaroo, Kudu, ostrich, Wildebeeste or Zebra. Meat is marinaded in my own special marinade overnight, strained, tossed in flour, flash fried with an onion, garlic and mushrooms, then scooped out of the pan into a slow cooker whilst the root vegetables are also fried for a few minutes (sliced potatoes, carrots, parsnips, leeks, celeriac and swede) then placed in the slow cooker on top of the meat. The marinade makes the gravy which is also poured over the veg and meat, the slow cooker switched on and left for 5 - 6 hours, by which time the meat is that tender you can’t pick it up on a fork.
OR ‘Toad-in-the-hole’, OR Cottage pie (made with Port wine), OR a very mean chicken curry made with cocoanut cream.
Oh dear… cook that casserole if she visits you and she won’t move out! Sounds so delicious…
Last night she made grilled chicken with blackberries, garlic and almond milk which sounds odd, tastes wonderful, but don’t ask me the recipe. Side dish was a wilted spinach salad with vinagrette. Today she has been experimenting with gluten-free pastry to make strawberry tarts.
I wish they did ‘smell screens’ My Bombay taters smell delish, along with a chicken curry to die for. Never again will I buy Indian food from a restaurant the other day we both had different meals, they both tasted exactly the same and were sugary sweet and disgusting. I complained to the restaurant on Facebook and they said that the sweet curry was what the locals liked…and next time I bought a meal I should introduce myself and they would cook for me accordingly. Great idea maybe we should all try and get our tastes provided for.
