That’s the one’s Eileen, I didn’t realised they were called fava beans as well.
I might try some of those next year in addition to my borlotti beans …they do look tasty. But I didn’t realize you had to peel the skin off …isn’t that a bit messy/time-consuming?
That’s news to me about peeling off the skin - I’ve never done that, just podded them steamed/boiled them and eaten them:-D
That’s what that link said:
After boiling or steaming them (for about five minutes), peel away the thin, pale sheath covering the bean.
It did seem odd, glad apparently it’s not necesary!
It depends how old the beans are. really
If old, then it is best to remove the skin as it is very bitter and can be tough
If the beans are young and fresh then the slight bitterness is part of the ‘eating experience’.
They’re not my favourite veg and I don’t grow them. They are easy to grow though. You can plant them autumn/early winter and they will stand all winter ready to grow ahead in spring. You might need to protect them with a bit of agricultural fleece DM, or your winters might be too long/harsh. They do withstand frost though
Back to the 30 cloves of garlic chicken. I have to report that it is very tasty and there were no noticeable digestive or social issues!!!
Hmmm, slight bitterness even if young and fresh … think I’ll stick to my borlotti beans then …thanks, DM.
Tonight is risotto with asparagus
Can honestly say I have never noticed any bitterness or toughness with them:confused:
If I see any at the farmers market when it reopens in Spring will try some.
Nobody eaten for nearly a week? Or nobody had anything exciting? That might be it. We’re having tuna pasta bake which is good ole comfort food but, as mentioned, unexciting
Thanksgiving leftovers tonight: chicken sandwich, cold stuffing (yum!) cauliflower, Kettle chips. Will make soup stock from the carcass tomorrow.
Tonight I had chicken pie (courtesy of supermarket), sweet corn, peas and potatoe wedges…really enjoyed it for a change
Ham and cabbage, pickled beets and a roll.
Today I had ‘sausage pot’ cooked in the slow cooker - herb sausages, leeks, carrots, parsnips and onions with a sausage casserole sauce with mashed potatoes…made a right pig of myself but left enough for tomorrow with a jacket potato I think…
Good hearty dish for a cold night, merz!
Certainly was dandysmom-love my slow cooker, just put everything in and forget about it for a few hours
Just had two Salmon-Spinach and Sicilian Lemon fish cakes made by Tescos, . . they were really nice too.
That sounds nice nero
We had yesterdays lamb roast with boulanger potatoes - very tasty. And I made a pot of vegetable soup for lunch (and tomorrow’s lunch) Proves it’s getting cooler
Yesterdays ham reappears with mozzarella cheese on a sesame seed bun, fresh spinach and Kettle chips.
Had remainder of sausage pot from yesterday with jacket potato…
