What are you having for lunch/dinner? (Part 1)

A good day for left-overs!

‘Leftovers’ should not be disparaged -they have lots going for them!
Many foods (especially the casserole type, and curries) taste better second day - the flavours seem to develop a greater depth
They use up food which would otherwise be wasted and we are the generation which doesn’t tolerate wasted food
They allow us to buy bigger on day 1, so we get a nicer piece of meat, which cooks better and doesn’t dry out. Theer’s nothing sadder than some of these tiny, sanitised, fatless pieces of beef. I’d rather have a nice bit of braising beef for the same price!

Another 2 of them Tescos Salmon and Spinach fish cakes.

I wasn’t disparaging leftovers, DM, have them frequently!

Tonight scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and a salad.

Tonight I’ve had chilli and jacket potato…very nice too!

Trout tonight - not sure yet what I’ll serve them with; herby rice maybe?

Steak with gravy, potatoes and green beans. Lime Sherbet for dessert.

Tuna salad, brussels sprouts, Kettle crisps; don’t cook on Thursday. Double chocolate chip cookie with tea for dessert.

Roast chicken, mashed potato and carrots and turnips followed by 2 clementines with evaporated milk poured over them-sounds an odd combination but I love clementines/satsumas with milk over them!

On my own today so have had my favourites.
Lunch - Smoked mackerel and Puy lentil salad with lime dressing
Dinner - Spicey chicken and chick peas with green salad

Chinese tonight: steamed chicken shiu mai dumplings, spring rolls.

Dinner tonight, beef steak pieces, egg noodles with mushrooms in a brown gravy, a tossed salad (lettuce, radishes, green onions, tomatoes and green peppers) with an Italian herb dressing (low cal).

Kedgeree tonight - a favourite!

Wonton soup (not the little cup with one wonton as in the restaurant, a large bowl with 6), salad and a roll; cup of tea and double chocolate chip cookie.

Tonight we had a mince round, chip shop chips, peas and sweetcorn followed by a mars ice cream bar. (Naughty but nice:) )

Tonight I had my Friday night treat-lightly battered fish, chips, mushy peas and a buttered barmcake, followed by a mug of tea and a kit-kat…yummy!

Oh well, . . it’s tea time again, . . I think I’ll have 2 more of them Salmon and Spinach fish cakes again, . . I’ve given up on the chippie, you can never get the same chips every night, . . consistency is not his middle name, . . how can someone screw up frying chips

Next week I’ll get a sack of Golden Wonders from the local farm and do my own.

Comfort food: scrambled eggs, bacon and hot buttered toast, cup of tea and double chocolate chip cookie.

Spicy roast chicken, baby new potatoes with mashed carrot and turnip followed by dish of rice pudding (out of tin!) then cup of tea and 2 plain biscuits…lovely

Roast chicken, roast potatoes, stuffing, mashed, cauli, carrots, gravy.
Also trying out prawn cocktail starters this version will be the last before Christmas so we don’t get fed up of it, various samples/versions tried but this may be the one we go with tiger prawns, home-made marie-rose mayonnaise, chopped raddish, celery, cucumber, apple and capers & little gem lettuce.
