US Election 2024 antics

“A Trump second term is upon us and the world is going to notice”.

Do hope this is not the case, that President-elect concentrates on more important issues.

There is not a more fitting message to US voters than this “As you sow, so shall you reap” it’s an idiom that means your actions in life will have consequences, and you will receive what you deserve. It’s similar to the idea of gravity, where what you plant determines what you’ll reap. For example, if you plant apple seeds, you’ll get apple trees.

…and in the 2024 election you planted a seed of division, hatred, and disregard for your fellow citizens and humanity in general.

Bob, if you feel that me and Annie were looking at the extremes, your memory of the 70s seems to be sugercoated to some extent as @Boot has confirmed in her post. It was exactly the same at my place. Pop/Beat music was one thing back then but real life was a different story.

obviously tariffs would be placed on imported things that we could produce now and until alternative production here could be established.

How long is “until”? Will it ever happen? Is there one example of when it actually happened for the benefit of ordinary people, i.e., like you and me? The most recent example is that INTEL has stopped its plan of erecting a plant for semiconductors as an attempt of making Europe more independent from Chinese imports, more self-reliant we could say . The same can be said about re-establishing badly needed pharmaceutical production facilities as part of an autarchy strategy. There are so many factors that need to be in place before such plans can be successful. Will people be willing to pay more for goods that are produced within the country or will they take to the street?

The essence, Bob, is that Trump and his consorts use the idea of autarchy because it sounds good to parts of his followers. He has said so often that he loves tariffs because they would enable him to “take revenge” and because he allegedly could impose them himself and without anyone interfering. His followers like that sound. The truth is that a) it’s hardly ever happened and b) he just spreads those ideas in oder to put pressure on other countries to make a deal with him which will be in his favour. So it’s more propaganda than real policy.

not to mention pollution from the excess of mass production.

I thought you didn’t believe in that “climate nonsense”?

Those skills have been lost and been replaced by IT skills, no hands on experience. Try and find a bricklayer, electrician, joiner or plumber today. We have to import those as well while our young folk are qualified to hell in media and IT and end up serving you a burger in McDonalds… :009:

IT skills are just as important today and those people don’t flip burgers but are urgently sought-after by employers and recruited right out of the lecture hall. Very often they are in an excellent negotiating position in what for them is an employees’ market not an employers’ market as it was in the 70s.

Trump wants to stamp out independent journalism, create a totalitarian state, stamp out Democracy and personal freedoms, he (and the GOP) are the enemies of Democracy, the elderly, old, and working class America. As Fascist Don promised in his speeches to his Christian Fascist following, he will attempt to create a Christofascist State, the most volatile form of government known in history to man, not unlike Iran and Muslim Mideast countries. So to future generations, remember Fascist America, Fascist Don told you his intentions (just like Hitler) and you fools who voted for him, you will be accountabl, there will e no " plausible deniability", you American traitors are well aware.

Oh come on, we have been through this time after time, the entire known coal reserves of the UK are exported by Queensland alone in about a week. The UK has no competitive reserves of minerals.

The country hasn’t been able to feed its population for at least a century. As a nation Britain needs to concentrate on what it is good at and farming and/or mineral production are not what it is good at. You’re living in cloud cuckoo land if you think it is.

On this I do agree with you - we do need t o recycle more and limit use of finite resources and minimise pollution

Do you really think Trump will be promoting those ethics though???

Clearly Harris policies were a long way short of marxism - silly exageration doesn’t make your point more credible.
Th reverse in fact.

Its on her web site

I can’t see any Marxist policies on her website. Is there anything specific you refer to? The Marxist label is bandied about with wild abandon these days. It’s invariably linked to policies focused on personal liberties, which certainly wouldn’t be permitted in a Marxist state.

IMO her main failing was too much emphasis on abortion rights and too little on actual policies that were of importance to ordinary people. Ordinary people want politicians to give them a dopamine hit - even if they never deliver anything they promise.

Trump won’t be interested in running the country only his businesses. The only reason he ran for the Presidency was to avoid jail. He’s just going to delegate to RFK jr,Vance,Musk ,etc…and the rest of the crazy fascists.

I see Keir is schmoozing macron - hopefully discussing how they can reverse Brexit

Divide and conquer. Is another apt one.

Let’s start with price controls

They can’t and they are both as equally unpopular. France is as much in favour of leaving the EU as we are, thats why Macron won’t let the French have a referendum on EU membership.

Imagine if that was true.

Trump takes all swing states.

Epic win !

Lots of governments have various versions of price controlling some things - that certainly doesn’t make them Marxist.

I’m expecting a single market model is being discussed. Full BRINO

Ok. Are there any other items on your “Marxist” list?

I’d like to answer some of your posts but I fear I would be going well off topic…And that’s not like me… :009:
Suffice to say…It’s some of your attitudes that have made us the sick boy of Europe and there’s no coming back. Isn’t that why Bruce and Lincs (plus some others) have given up on the UK and now pour scorn upon it.
We need a Trump!
