UK heatwave: Temperatures rise to 31.8C and could climb further

John (my dog) just got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, and I read that cats get Hyperthyroidism. Not sure how it affects cats, but I know dogs with the issue suffer terribly in the heat. Plus she has associated skin problems, so I can’t get her fur off at the moment.

Swimmy I hope you get sorted soon, you poor thing. Have you heard of these? Might be worth getting some just to have in emergencies. They were invented for people with dementia, who forget to keep hydrated, but anyone can use them. My neighbour down the road uses them and says she keeps hers with her when she goes walking.

Emergency rehydration solution (as well as I can remember so check it out) 25mm sugar, 2,5 mm table salt, I litre water. Think it’s better than plain water for a day or so but keep in mind I’m a PhD and not an MD!

Exactly! Percy

People moan about the weather here all the time… it’s either too hot, too cold, or too wet.
Many spend big money to go to countries with sweltering temperatures. Yet, when we get the same weather here, they don’t like it and moan!
It’s was roasting hot in 1976, yet l can’t remember the same outcry and red warnings.

I feel more sorry for animals that can’t even take their fur coats off!

When I was a little kid I used to think they could … that they had a little zip under their tummy and could shrug out of their onesie.

Not like me to be here at this time but I’ve had to retreat indoors, too hot for me even in the shade. I love the sun but you can have too much of a good thing

I haven’t been out all day, bar nipping out with the dog, but the neighbours are ramping up their socialising skills outside my door  aided by a cold one no doubt.

Its noticeably cooler in the house than it is outside, and the dog isn’t even panting which is a good sign!

It’s now 4.30pm and 37c. Due to reach 40c + tomorrow. Roll on the promised thunderstorm for Wednesday.

Someone said on the radio earlier that it was raining in Birmingham!

“Our” fox has actually come into the summerhouse today. No sign of her pups, I guess sleeping in the shade. Snot was last seen curled up on the stone floor in the backitchen.

Maximum temperature today.

Managed to get round a decent 3 mile circuit in 33 degrees C, but the temperature steadily increased until 16:00. It’s still 33 Degrees C, and forecast to reach 40 C tomorrow…
In’t it brilliant…
:sun_with_face:
Tomorrows forecast…

Ah, but we didn’t have the internet to moan on then, so couldn’t make our feeling so public. :grinning:

My daughter just visited a Tesco Extra to do her shopping, and all the freezers were empty, apparently, the freezers were unable reach the low temperatures necessary in this heat and all the stuff was spoilt.

Ack thats a shame, Foxy…but its only another day of this (hopefully) so Tesco won’t have the excuse to push the cost of that onto the customers

I would like to bet that they are well insured Pixie…

It was a icky sticky 29 degrees here.

Imagine being in a hospital bed, or being bedridden. My sympathies go there.
