UK heatwave: Temperatures rise to 31.8C and could climb further

I put a wet towel behind the fan, Mups so it draws the air in. I haven’t noticed anything different but its on the floor so the dog gets the benefit more than I do. She is just lying next to it so maybe it helps a little :woman_shrugging:

Better to put a towel with the bottom into a bowl of water thus acting as a wick BEHIND the fan we find. We’re in the summerhouse which is sheltered. The fox and her pups are stretched out in the shade and a variety of birds are visiting the bowls of water we’ve put out. Neither of us like hot weather. Cold weather suits us better on the basis it’s easier to get warm than to get cold.

Shall I just wet the carpet altogether? It saves the dog doing it for me :joy:

Well you could I guess but no need!

Found this on Face Ache. It goes towards showing what a nanny state we’ve become.

pretty much sums it up

I could be missing something here, I confess that I know absolutely nothing about meteorology. Using up to date technology, science and imagery would seem like the logical thing to do.

After the heatwave is over I’m off down to the coast to gather some seaweed to hang on the wall

I believe that the Millenniums and beyond are so accustomed to visualisations and graphics that having to translate data into something meaningful is actually quite difficult. I know that when I first encountered colour on the display on scientific instruments such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers my first thought was “gimmick” but I soon changed my opinion! The new coloured weather maps really do get much more information across than the old style. I look forward to three and four dimensional representation of weather — and more.

Gosh that reminds me of Star Trek and the Holosuite! :joy:

Perhaps you should all come over to my house ! I changed my bedding this morning and it dried, but it is now pleasant in the house and outside there is a light dusting of clouds and a cool breeze.
My 3 cats have had some food and are now lying in the lounge cool and comfortable.
Please keep you horrible hot weather to yourself because, so far, I haven’t needed a fan!

Well if we all trooped over to yours, it would get pretty warm very quickly. I have ice lollies I could bring! I’m sure your cats would appreciate a mango solero :yum:

We have reached 29°C outdoors, the temperature in our kitchen is a sweltering 34°C.

Thats a horrendous temperature Mags!

Tie the fridge door open and grab a chair to sit in front of it!

“ New style
weather forecast.
designed to look
like fear and
destruction”

Do you think the person who put that spin on a modern temperature map is a tad paranoid?!

The Met Office have been using this type of colour mapping for temperature for quite a while now - since the technology was developed to do it.
The days when the weatherman had to stick plastic sunshine symbols on the weather map are long gone.

Has the author of that F/book post never seen similar maps in cooler months, when the colours are a calm pale blue, with an energising green and a cheerful touch of yellow here and there?!
It is common sense to use the colour range of blue for cold temperatures and the oranges and reds for hotter temperatures.

Come to think of it, most of the wind forecasts I look at use the same colour range to denote wind speed intensity - and very useful it is too, to see at a glance whether you want to consider sailing into that area on that day.

It’s a fairly standard colour coding - don’t shoot the Met Office cos this week’s weather map is making you feel fearful! lol.

Where are you all ?
I’m in Wiltshire and it’s 29.5 at the moment but my house is ok I like the heat although it does make me sleepy .
My tips Wear light clothes - only natural fibres and take it easy don’t worry about cooking anything .if there is a breeze open the doors and windows and let the wind blow through the house.
When it cools a little we shall take the dog for a walk .

They just want to create alarm and control movement as it is so much easier if people stay at home like lockdown days.

Who does?

Hampshire…25°

the state. There is a whole agenda to reduce movement. It’s in my local authority long term plan to reduce emissions. If people don’t travel their carbon footprint goes down etc. So they want to encourage people to stay in their homes more.

There are also worldwide “think tank” suggestions such as this one to encourage people to travel less and have everything within 15 minutes of their home. Plenty more where that comes from. In the future we will be living underground like Vashti in rooms that resemble beehive cells.
