UK heatwave: Temperatures rise to 31.8C and could climb further

I think they are using it as a distraction… I remember the first summer of lockdown and it was horrendously warm most days (even up here). This time though they are making a huge fuss, which will remain to be seen if it’s warranted or not.

8:05 and it’s 17°C already.

Sometimes I think we see things as being black and white. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they are using it as a distraction but the drought/ climate change issue remains, at least in my opinion.

Sydney has one, every time they turn it on it rains, it is just an expensive waste of money.

Its raining here right now…that wasn’t forecast. I suspect its just a shower

Yes of course it’s been building up for years around the world, but the level of publicity this is being given is phenomenal.

The system supporting our country is falling apart and it’s nothing to do with climate change. There is a fundamental ineptitude at the centre which has been swept under the carpet for years and has come to a head because of all the challenges we have faced recently. A leadership vacuum on top of this.

I heartily agree, we are in a mess and for the time being it looks like it’s only going to get messier on a number of fronts, I take no pleasure in saying that.

Here’s the tricky bit…how do we fix it?
I feel a bit like I’m providing the ammunition and running away because I don’t have the answers.

You get back here and stand your ground. Bring suncream and a shade :joy:

Hi

It is a useful distraction from far more important issues.

The arrival time for ambulances after a 999 call for a stroke or heart attack was supposed to be 18 Minutes.

West Midlands ambulance service has now changed it’s script for the 999 Call Handlers to say if you are having a stroke or heart attack it may be several hours before an ambulance arrives.

I can cope with a few days of hot weather but not a long wait for an ambulance.

Oh gosh Swimmy! This is so very disturbing…especially for the vulnerable. Are you all supposed to get taxis or neighbours to help take people to the hospital or what?

I will do just that when get back home later;-)
I’ll also bring a bottle of ice cold cider :slightly_smiling_face:

I also think (or believe, rather) that the huge fuss over the weather could be trying to make a case for future geo-engineering, where they (scientists) control the weather. It has already been done in some parts of the world, but to get funding for such projects, one must make the case.

There’s an ominius thought for a Sunday morning!

if the ozzies can handle it every bloody year surely you can just once in a while? come on pucker up?

The UK, really England is hugely over populated. THAT is what makes a massive difference.

what happened to the planes to africa??

I spent a little time sitting outside our church with an elderly lady who has considerable health issues about an hour ago,she was feeling uncomfortable and needed some fresh air.
What she was telling me about getting an ambulance was almost identical to the comments in your post.
Scary!

The terrible thing is that there is no real shortage of ambulances - it’s the inadequace of hospitals to cater for the load they are now facing. Right now ambulances are being used as a buffer to A&E because hospitals have inadequate beds and staff. IMO hospital Trusts just don’t work. They do not provide adequate provisions for the load from the communities they (are supposed to) serve.

That’s thought provoking, think I need to do a little reading up.

There is also a serious shortage of blood for transfusions.
