Perhaps we should recount the Brexit votes then?
There was an opinion piece about the USA written by Stan Grant which examines whether America has a future. The article entitled âThe sick politics at the heart of this weekâs US crisis go deeper than Donald Trumpâ
Toward the end he refers to Break it Up, a book by writer Richard Kreitner.
Grantâs article ends:
It survives by compromise and when that failed in the 1860s Americans made war on each other.
Today it is a country whose electoral college system can ignore popular will, whose Supreme Court is politically stacked, where power is held and passed around like a family heirloom.
Kreitner says there is too much at stake for complacency. He says Americans âneed to recreateâ their country.
The constitution needs an overhaul. Congress doesnât work, the House is not truly representative and the Senate has too much power.
The countryâs deep inequalities are destroying the promise of America. It must redistribute wealth and reach back to those left behind.
Kreitnerâs book is not a call for an end to America but a warning about how it could end. After this week it is timely and sobering reading.
He quotes one of the founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin: âWe must indeed all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.â
Franklin left Americans a gift and a curse: âA republic, if you can keep it.â
Quite an interesting, thought provoking opinion piece I thought.
Winners are not likely to do retrospective fixing.
If Mr Trump had suspicions, he had the most power to bring about some sort of fix, before counting started, why didnât he?
Some US states have used postal voting for years and nobody has grumbled. If there are weaknesses they can be exploited by both sides. He lost because he didnât have a case. Although there would have been some fraud it would have been on both sides and was not significant in swaying the results.
I think he should stop moaning and leave quietly. I have a feeling that his departure from the White house will have more televised commentary & real life viewers than the swearing in ceremony of his successor!
He didnât want to fix anything that was to be used as an excuse to challenge the results.
Thanks for posting.
America is locked in a perpetual culture war, lacerated by class, race and faith.
Itâs all academic anyway, give it a few weeks and nobody will remember who Trump was. Most people just want to go to work, bring up a family, buy a new car or the next computer game and forget about politics. All the old people who were Trump supporters will still be hammering away at their keyboards expressing their disgust at the election result, and all the ring leaders of the capitol hill extravaganza will have been rounded up by the FBI or some other shady security organisation and will never be heard of again.
You should write a movie script
Would you go to see it if I did MinxâŠ
Good point, even if a little off topic.
Yes, I am a strong believer in compulsory ID cards (in the UK).
That would solve a number of problems.
Or, better still, have another referendum. Iâm sure the number of leavers would have increased.
Perhaps next time, we should have three options:
- Remain
- Leave with the EUâs deal
- Leave with no deal
Of course, that would split the leave vote, wouldnât it?
Donât mention this to the remoaners!
I believe it was re counted several times as Cameron tried to get out of the grave he had just dug himself and was furiously scurrying around looking for anything that would save him from the abyssâŠâŠBut too lateâŠ
He had shot his bolt and also his career as a politicianâŠ
Yes, he certainly miscalculated there, didnât he?
Says it all.
If they want to remain viable, the Republicans need to recover their core principles: small government, low spending, free trade, constraints on executive power and strict adherence to the Constitution. The clue is in the partyâs name: they exist to defend the republic. The sooner they remember that, the better.

I suppose you could turn that around and suggest that the Democrats defend democracy. The clue is in the partyâs name!
Trump wasnât always a conservative Republican. Trump was registered as a Democrat for more than eight years in the 2000s. Trump was a registered Democrat from August 2001 through September 2009.
Some conservatives suspecting Trump of acting on behalf of the Democrats, and in particular, the Clintons, to sabotage the GOP.
If there is any truth in that which direction do American voters go.
Based on historic frameworks for affirmative action and recent demands for a new modern era of enhanced segregation, a reasonable person might be able to accurately predict what that constitution might look like.
A truly insightful article. Thank you!
(Reuters) - The FBI has warned of armed protests being planned for Washington and all 50 U.S. state capitals in the run-up to President-elect Joe Bidenâs Jan. 20 inauguration, a federal law enforcement source said on Monday.
More protests serve no purpose, going armed shows a clear criminal intention.
I thought almost all Americans were armedâŠ
ever since the Wild West!
I say once more, why or why would anyone sane even want such a job surrounded by that much hatred and loonies?
I will not be surprised Biden is assasinated.
He would be the 5th President for this to happen to then, I believe.
Who wants a stinking job like that ey?
