I began a thread on this today .
See Conflicting thread.
There’s no way an elderly or vulnerable person living alone ought to be left without some company either .Think the thousands of people who already suffer depression and other mental illnesses.
Last Saturday I wrote a short note suggesting that the residents on my street, start a self help group…and distributed to all.
We now have a group of residents who are happy to help anyone in self isolation, which includes over 70’s and anyone with symptoms…so could affect any of us.
I also distributed a suggestion for shopping prior to the self isolation deadline for the over 70’s - for them to make contact with whoever is available to shop for them and at an arranged time they leave a shopping bag, with list and enough cash to cover. The supporter then returns with the shopping and includes the change and receipt…ringing the doorbell and walking away so no contact is made. Time will tell if this system works.
Sainsburys seem unaware that the elderly can’t shop for themselves ?
Email from the CEO today advising customers that they will open Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays 8-9 a.m especially for the Elderly , Disabled and Vulnerable .
To produce ID and pay by card at checkout to protect staff.
I’m not sure why this is Mups although there was a second delivery today on produce (that doesn’t normally happen). Milk was very late but got there eventually. It does seem to be improving but very slowly.
As I’ve just posted on another thread, this is SO serious - there are NO choices! The over 70’s MUST SELF ISOLATE!! NO CHOICES!!!
Sign up to one of the very many help groups and do what you must but DO NOT GO OUT!!!
It is estimated we are only 14 days behind Italy, and if they’re right we can expect nearly 340 deaths per day!!!
As for being left on your own just in case you get depressed…this is time to man up! Use your phone! Use your computer! There are plenty of groups out there you can communicate with but the number of deaths can be limited IF YOU STAY AT HOME!!
As previously stated - there are loads of help groups will to help you out. If you can’t find anything locally - contact Age UK. Or ask a younger neighbour. Order your shopping online and ask a neighbour for essential items. Very many cafes are offering takeway meals - you can order those…
THERE IS NO TIME TO ORGANISE MEALS ON WHEELS OR PRESCRIPTION DELIVERIES - FOR HEAVENS SAKE…THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL!!!
Hey lindyloo ,this isn’t about me personally . Mentally ill people are unable to man up as you call it . Some walking amongst us won’t even be able to understand what’s going on . Too, I have an acquaintance who doesn’t have a television or read newspapers .
A friend doesn’t understand me trying to explain being in the incubation period showing no symptoms .
It’s extremely trying believe me !
Perhaps you ought to try getting through to Sainsbury’s CEO to tell him he’s got it all wrong ? As you’ve stated here ,
I’ve just sent an email to the CEO of Sainsburys…!!!..I won’t hold my breath…but I’ve suggested he subscribes to this forum as an example of the “ignorant” percentile of the UK!!
Those who can’t or don’t understand are a threat to others - they are either made to understand or physically restrained!!!
It’s seems the virus is bringing out not only the thug mentality, but the new virus: “Imasthickasshit”!!!
Zuleika - THIS…IS…ABOUT…YOU!!! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT!!!
“There’s no way an elderly or vulnerable person living alone ought to be left without some company either .Think the thousands of people who already suffer depression and other mental illnesses.”
…Your Grandparents were called to war. You’re being called to sit on your sofa. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
You have the benefit of social media, of interaction with others. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
NOT ONLY CAN YOU DO THIS…YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST DO THIS!!!
You can’t restrain a person for not being able to understand .
Look at the pics posted of Brighton today ?
If the PM sees them perhaps every single person will be ordered to stay at home ?
No use getting on at me .
You can’t restrain a person for not being able to understand . - Oh yes you can! If they’re a danger to themselves or others - lock 'em up and throw away the key!!
There has been a 42% increase in deaths in Italy since 1st March.
There has been a 114% increase in deaths in the UK since 1st March.
Scale it up… If you’re over 70 and don’t self isolate you are worse than those people on Brighton beach - and you pose a serious risk to those people and many many more!
I have composed a graph of the infections in the UK from 8th March to 21st March 2020… Just fourteen days.…imagine if the graph carries on at this rate…
The post wasn’t about me and please stop shouting at me .
I was trying to explain to you that there are people in this country who simply don’t understand what’s required of them .
Yes I do say again on behalf of elderly people ,some very confused ,they ought not to be left alone, isolated.
At one time they were not allowed to have deliveries through the night as it was, allegedly, seen as unsocial - the heavy lorries might disturb people. Now, however, they have relaxed that rule while this virus thing lasts and, the few times i have been to Sainsbury’s recently, the shelves have been stocked.
Here - they have closed their cafe, deli, and fresh fish counters - and redeployed the staff to stock up overnight and to man all the tills to cope with the queues.
I am not a fan of supermarkets - but have to congratulate Sainsbury’s on the way they are trying to help. Presumably the others are doing the same.
