The current reading of this war is that Iran effectively has the upper hand. Last year it dispersed its weapons around this huge country (about the same size as Alaska). They will prove very difficult, time consuming and costly to locate and destroy. It already had its plan in place as more US/Israel attacks seemed very likely - close the straits, attack US sites around the gulf, attack oil processing plants - all to make sure other gulf states really felt the pressure of siding with the US and also to make it a war on energy.
On top of that, the US has entered into a war by choice, thus vulnerable to other pressures such as cost, markets, etc. and therefore changes of mind. Iran, by contrast, has been forced into a war for the very existence of its regime. That stiffens their sinews somewhat.
So it looks like Trump is trying to force negotiation in order to give him an opt out that he can wave around as a victory. Which it won’t be. At best it will be back to something like the agreement in place under Obama but binned by Trump himself. Only the very gullible would call this a win.

So the US had a 12 day war last year with Iran. If they didn’t get what they wanted last year, why do they think this year’s war is going to achieve whatever it is they are aiming for with boots on ground and by shooting down drones supplied by Russia which the US are facilitating production of by removing sanctions on Russia?

Ukraine used to be part of the old USSR and as such more or less did things Russian style.
Then the Americans organised an election to get the old president (who was probably Russian) out and put in place a new president who was an actor and comedian that could be manipulated by Sleepy Joe Biden and the American gov’t. Ukraine was half Russian anyway so it wasn’t difficult to convince the other half that they could be like an American and have all the freedoms that Americans have…fast cars and plenty of everything in exchange for American bases and chemical labs on Russia’s doorstep. And as a bonus, all the rare earth minerals that Ukraine has to offer, lithium and stuff.
But Putin was having none of it and so decided to take back Ukraine and chuck out the Americans.
The Americans knew that the EU and NATO would object to Russia being so heavy handed and said it was an abuse of human rights so sent weapons and money to the Ukraine while America stepped back to let the Brits and the EU take the strain. Trump could see what had been going on and wanted no part of it, anyway, he had designs on middle east oil…
