I am upper class-I managed to swim the long bit.
As long as one can keep one’s head above water …
Why is the perception of well over £150,000 being wealthy (to some) sad?
I was given two… yes two… premium bonds for my Christmas box in 1956.
1AK something something something. I sold one for 15/- in January 1957. Anybody wanna buy the other one?
Because it isn’t wealth, it might have been years ago but not now. I would be concerned if that was all the dosh we had, especially as the sort of care home we would require, if the need arises, wouldn’t be cheap.
Damn sight more than I have got and I have worked for 54 years.
Not a prospective customer, Easy,
but just out of curiosity, what’s the remaining one worth.
I wonder if, as a kid, you were all that impressed about getting a ‘bond’ for xmas -
rather than something “useful”
No You had a job for 50 years and spent all your earnings on BINGO
What a nice man!
I bought my first premium bonds, a fivers worth, when I was 17.
The day premium bonds came out, my then Boss bought everyone in our place of work 2 £1 bonds each. That was very generous in those days.
I still have those 2 as well. They start with the letters AB.
I have two bonds which were bought for me when I was five years old - worth £5 each. I have never won anything so I might cash them in and go on a World cruise.
Prizes are being cut, nothing to do with Brexit of course. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38893452
I win the odd £25 now and again. I also save my change. It`s just a few quid but I do like to go down to my local building society and put something in an account I save for a treat one day.
Norwich and Peterborough are closing their local branches soon.
I have an Instant Access account with Santander with about £2000 in it that I use for emergencies only.
How much notice do you have to give to cash in Premium Bonds?
None.
If you cash out online you should get the money into your bank account in 2 days
Thanks, it would make more sense for me to have my money in Premium Bonds than in an account that pays .01%.
Bloody Capitalist.
Yes and you have a very very very slight chance of wining a million or a lesser top prize
And it is still a better rate than most banks pay.
I came up with £75 this month, one of my daughters had £175, and my sister got £1000.
