I think you’re right there. NS&I has already released a new Green Bond that has better interest rates than the previous release.
I’ve just checked and … nothing, nada, zilch, zip this month for me but V has won £50
Crikey, it’s been so long since I won anything, I’d almost forgotten about them until I received an email today saying I’d won a prize this month - I haven’t checked to see how much yet.
There was a time when I won a small prize or two nearly every month -
I still have the same number of Bonds, so I guess the number of prizes available have reduced a lot - or I have become very unlucky!
Nothing for me again thats three months on the trot
3 x £25 for us……
£25 for me this month, yay!
We always have a little treat with our winnings or put it in the holiday spendies pot
April’22
2 x £25
V and I have also won 25 squid each.

Nothing again that four months on the trot
I’ve cashed mine in I paid some moving bills with the money
Are Premium Bonds a bit of a con? A good few years ago…One of them is a 1AK…that should give you an idea of how many years, I was given some by my boss at the time for a Christmas Box. No idea of his name and no doubt he has long gone. They are " Not Transferable" so they are now worth nothing. I wonder how many millions of these Bonds are still around and can no longer be claimed.
I don’t think Premium Bonds are a con at all. After all said and done, if the bonds are in your name, you can cash them in at anytime and receive the face value.
Check on the NS&I website (www.nsandi.com) for details on how to cash them in.
That’s my point. They are not in my name. They were given to me back in the 1950s and not bought in my name. Whoever bought them is no doubt pushing up the daisies by now.
2 x £25 this month (May).
If not in your name then any winnings would not be sent to you then.
75£ this month first winnings so far this year.
Well done Galty!
I think your old Boss was trying to use Premium Bonds for a purpose they were not created for - if he wanted to give you Premium Bonds, he should have arranged for them to be bought in your own name.
That doesn’t mean that Premium Bonds are a con - more likely that your Boss misunderstood how Premium Bonds work if he thought he could buy them in his own name and then give them away.
As you have noticed, the Bonds clearly say “Not Transferable”
All the Bonds your Boss bought in his own name would be registered under his own Account Holder number, so they would only have paid out the prizes to him and only he could cash them in.
It is possible that he cashed in all his Bond Holdings at a later date or maybe when he died the total amount of his Bond Holdings was claimed by his Executor and repaid into his Estate and the Bond Numbers you have are now cancelled.
I have known people claim Premium Bond Holdings for deceased relatives, where they had the Account Holders Number, even though some of the original Bonds were missing. The missing Bonds are then cancelled and the numbers removed from the prize draws, so the Bond certificates will have no value if they ever turn up in someone else’s possession.
If you only have the Bonds but nothing to show the Account Holders name or number, the only way you could be sure who owned the Bonds or if they are still valid would be via the NS&I Tracing Service - but if the value is only a few pounds and you are pretty sure they were not bought in your name, it’s probably not worth the bother of checking.
Dah dah !
