Platinum Jubilee

Couldn’t happen to a better person!

You’re right of course.

After two years of lockdowns, excessive deaths, an overwhelmed health system, high inflation and shortages all this partying does smack of bread and circuses

I liked watching the parades and horses on the TV and it was an occasion .
Looking at the crowds of humanity in London my first thought was I hope they have loads of portaloos somewhere !

I went to the lighting of the Beacon…it was lovely a free glass of Champers and three cheers for the queen…all good fun. I love being British…no i meant English…actually what I really meant was Yorkshire

I watched the beacon being lit on top of the Worcestershire beacon last night standing on a stool in the bathroom which gave me a good view if somewhat distant, the flame looked very small.

Great entertainment this morning …
…at 8:30 five men arrived an unloaded a tent onto the common …
…by 10:45 no progress had been made, the bits of tent still lay on the ground…
…at 11 am two ladies from the close arrived (retired vets I understand) and within 30 minutes the tent has been erected … I think there is a message there somewhere… :upside_down_face:

On the evening news they showed some of the clebrations, I’ve got to say that the Duke of Kent looked a frail old bastard considering he is younger than the Queen.

Australian PM Albo lit a beacon for the Queens Jubilee in Canberra yesterday …

…while in Sydney the Harbour Bridge was illuminated with purple light.

There is probably more but to be honest there isn’t great excitement here about the Queen of Australia’s Jubilee

No, same here in Scotland. All fairly quiet, save a few patches of bunting and a couple of parties. Beacons were lit in certain places, but not near me.
I don’t mind it either way…I watched the Trooping of Colour, but that’s it.

By all accounts in the English mohammadan colonies there was virtually no recognition of the event.

No street parties here … within walking distance, whereas I remember one in the next street and another nearby when we had the last juby ten years ago.

Maybe they are all waiting for Sunday!

I watched the trooping of the colour and kept wondering if the poor soldiers needed a wee , or what would happen if one fainted . I bet they were glad it was over but I must say the British pageantry is quite something and those magnificent horses .
.
I do think we were witnessing the past right in front of our eyes what we watched was magnificent but I think it won’t continue into the long future . Maybe if Charles is king but once and if William is king all the pomp and ceremony will Peter out . Do the young generation want it . It was definately Good old British pomp and glory but sadly it will be a thing of the past .

Anyone got these crochet postbox covers turning up in their area? They’re all over the place here

Very cute and a lot of work gone into them so bravo to the makers but they’re a bit quirky weird!

Plus I expect they’ll get nicked or vandalised :frowning:

In our neck of the woods they would go straight into the nearest bin. (Rural Suffolk about ten miles south of Ipswich)

I hope that’s not true, it would be a form of censorship. Everyone is entitled to their own view about the monarchy, and if someone has gone to the trouble of creating something like that, which does no harm to anyone, and would bring a smile to many, to destroy it is extremely ill mannered.

There have been many in my area, and GY/Gorleston. Loved seeing the photos of them on FB.

If our royals stay out of politics and stay out of trouble, this pomp can only get more popular … once every few years, bring out the gold carriage.

I was born the year of the coronation, could never relate to these shows so much as I can now. This is our 15 minutes of hollywood.

I doubt he contracted it in a Public convenience. :bike:

Here is one’s rather humble effort. As I stated previously, the dearth of bunting forced one to print some paper types off. The small flag in the middle of the balcony is a remnant from VE Day. One hopes Her Majesty will not take offence. God Save The Queen!! :innocent:  :relaxed:

Aspen Island, home of the Carillon in Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin was renamed Queen Elizabeth II Island by PM Albo. Queen Elizabeth, Queen of Australia, has opened just about everything in Canberra except a car door.
