Just waiting for the sun now, baseball cap and shades at the ready.
Gonna sell the White Bomber (who needs two Bombers?) to part fund the Beamers respray. Started again the refurb of the first scratch built plane for my son after he passed his flying test, aiming to have it done for next week end, stripping the covering revealed all the scars he did to it 20 years ago, that is a long time, it is being returned to itās original livery, it was a proud time, seeing my son fly a model plane, unaided, It was painful, seeing him crash it.
Here it is with a bare belly
It will now be flown in a different manner, knife edges and all
The only advisories on the Beamers MOT were for tyre condition, the treads are fine but, having been on the car so long and the car being largely inactive, the sidewalls start to deteriorate so, I have ordered four new tyres to be delivered here, I will then take the tyres and wheels to an alloy wheel refurbisher who will remove the old tyres, repaint the wheels then fit the new tyres. The existing condition of the wheels is very good but not perfect so, best done to maximise the impact of the respray.
Booked in for Monday week, wheel refurb.
Dug out the replacement interior today, the original black was a bit oppressive, the cream leather lightens things, time to start cleaning before installation.
Rather you than me Spitty, good luckā¦
First thing is the seats, I have noticed that the replacement ones did not come with the runner frames so, I will have to take out the existing seats, change the nylon bushes that stop the seat rocking ( common problem that needed doing anyway) attach the runner assembly to the new seats and refit, anyway, the wheels are next on the agenda, the new Toyo Proxes tyres arrived this morning so, at the end of the week, I will put the car up on four axle stands and remove the wheels then, on Monday I will put them in the van along with the new Proxes, take the to the powder coater who will remove the old tyres, correct any imperfections on the alloys, repaint them then fit the new tyres.
Here are the Toyoās
The battery for the Black Bomber has departed Nansha, at that reckoning, the beamer will be painted before it arrives here.
Will it be a Beamer Summer, or a Bomber Summer?
The white Bomber did not sell, who in their right mind would spend a couple of grand on a bike that could be seized at any point, for being illegal Donāt matter, Iām glad it didnāt sell, there is a bit of me in that, the Beamer will be painted regardless.
The gear shift gaiter in beige leather is rare as rocking horse shite, my mate the trimmer extraordinaire is making me one out of the leather I bought from an old seat cover.
The wheels for the Beamer are away, should get them back on Wednesday, just ordered some heat resistant paint for the hubs, get them painted whilst new, you will see them through the newly painted wheels.
Better get the wheels back tomorrow, watch this space for the respray, it aināt goin to be traditional, just about every panel unbolts on a Z3, lets see what happens, goin to swap the bonnet for one I bought earlier with minor lacquer issues, then take the original to the paint shop. Most Paint Shops arenāt interested in total resprays because of the time and masking invested them, this way there is no excuses, and better overall job will be done at half price, a win win situation, we shall see.
read somewhere recently that fast speed scooters will be the next crazy dangerous craze?
Didnāt get the wheels back, tomorrow it is, think I shot myself in the foot delivering the wheels not attached to the vehicle, if they were attached, they would have dealt with them quicker, to get the vehicle removed from their compound, as it is, they are probably using my wheels as fillers between getting complete vehicles out of the way. I have no problem with this but, I have paid full price for a service, but, am being used to fill gaps, this is just an assumption, I have no idea how their business works, but wheels delivered at 8.30am Monday, hopefully returned completed 3.5 days later seems a bit elongated.
Here is one of the redone wheels, fitting new center caps was the right decision. The company who did the wheels also are a Body Shop so I told them (and they already knew) that all the panels on the Beamer unbolt so can be sprayed remotely without having to mask up etc, based on this the price quoted is half the cost of spraying on the car, the saving will pay for the new Soft top.
Just painted the part of the hubs that are seen between the wheel spokes with heat resistant paint, these look a bit unsightly when the weather gets at them, also painted my Nuts
Took the Beamer for itās first proper drive in 4 years, because it hasnāt been used for so long, didnāt dare drop the roof just in case something had seized and I couldnāt re-raise it, I will operate it on the drive first off, just in case.
stuck in a mud pat - same old story - give that man a hose down and stop him sweating!!
