I don’t think they are any relative to the European Magpie, the only similarity is the colour. Ours are a type of butcher bird and dangerously protective when they are nesting.
They’ve drawn my blood on occasions
Hells bells Bruce they are fierce…It’s like a scene from a Alfred Hitchcock film…The black birds have been dive bombing Rosie the cat but the Magpies are quite friendly to humans, so far!.
That snake moves fast…

Lovely big dog !!
Nice on Graham!
I hope you were at a decent distance, the parents can get very stroppy.
I was about 30 feet away. That said, the geese are so used to people, they would normally come right up to you looking for something to eat. ![]()
I have a job!
My headphones, Sony cheapies, are getting old and I noticed that the ear pads are falling to bits. I want to take them with me when I go to the UK.
As you can see the plastic cover is splitting and exposing the foam inner
Actually they would probably have held together for a while longer but I came across replacements on Amazon for just a few dollars so I ordered a pair. They are for a later model than mine but apparently they are the same size.
Now I have to see if I can change them without wrecking them.
@Bruce I have just bought pair of Sony Head phones for £30ish and im amazed at how good they are .They blocked out the neighbours alarm , and my other neighbours yapping dog…I can wear them out in the garden and not lose connection. worth every penny.
Oh Yes, @Eliza I am very pleased with these, I bought them many years ago, they sound good to me and I always take them on holiday with me.
As you say the noise cancelling is especially great on a plane.
That’s different!
I like it!![]()
