Afternoon, Still very windy here but not as bad as yesterday. Dunc’s been out fixing the fences this morning, The roof tiles will have to wait for the winds to drop totally before he goes up there. We lost a barn door, not a sign of it anywhere. So he’s away the now getting wood and big hinges to make another one.
Had my hair cut today just a couple more inches, it’s just below my shoulders, doesn’t half feel weird lol. Bought new clips for the pool but the last cut left it a bit long for the clips to get it all in.
I know how it feels … your head feels ever so much lighter doesn’t it. Not to mention a draught around your neck.
Sounds like it was a little wild for you with Floris … I’d have to move.
You get used to it Morty, I’ve lived in Scotland all my life. First out on the Hebridian Isle of Mull, then we moved to mainland Scotland, spent most of my life in Perth where I still have my house, but been up here on the north coast for 15 or so years. Came up here on holiday when I was a child and fell in love with the place, it reminded me of our home on Mull.
Evening. Still that cold wind here tonight. Had my hair blowed dried today then some food shopping as I needed bread, I was down to the last slice this morning. Also trying to empty the freezer to clean it out.
I suppose you get used to it. We lived in the hills of Angus (Scotland) so was pretty windy and cold at times. And WINDY ! This was me on the hills:
It feels like autumn is right around the corner for some reason …
I like Autumn.
Is that cos you don’t like tourists Rox?
Only the entitled ones in their motorhomes who make life hell for the locals. It’s all the fault of the idiot who started the NC500 route, the wee narrow road wasn’t made for the traffic on it now, and a hell of a lot of it is single track. Look at the photo at the end of the post.
Tourists before the NC500 were fine they stayed in hotels, holiday lets or BnB places, those in caravans or motor homes stayed in the proper sites for them.
Many locals on the [North Coast 500] are expressing frustration and anger towards some motorhome and campervan owners. They report issues like overcrowding, inappropriate parking, waste disposal problems, and general disruption to their daily lives. This has led to calls for measures like bans on overnight parking in certain areas and a general sense of animosity towards tourists in larger vehicles.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Problems Caused by Motorhomes:
- Traffic Congestion:
Motorhomes, especially in large numbers, can cause significant traffic problems on the narrow, single-track roads of the NC500, making it difficult for locals to travel, as well as for emergency services.
- Parking Issues:
Many locals report motorhomes parking in inappropriate places, such as blocking passing places, driveways, and even cemeteries, making it difficult for residents and other travelers.
- Waste Disposal:
There have been numerous reports of motorhome owners dumping waste, including human waste, along the route, leading to unsanitary conditions and environmental concerns.
- Overcrowding:
Some areas, like Ullapool, are experiencing overcrowding due to the influx of tourists in motorhomes, straining local resources and infrastructure.
- Behavioral Issues:
Some locals feel that some motorhome owners are not respectful of the local environment, community, or infrastructure.
Local Reactions:
- Frustration and Anger:
Many locals feel that their quality of life has been negatively impacted by the issues caused by some motorhome owners.
- Vigilante Actions:
Some locals have resorted to actions like blocking passing bays to prevent motorhomes from passing, highlighting the level of frustration.
- Calls for Restrictions:
Some locals are calling for bans on overnight parking, charges for motorhome use, and other measures to control the influx of motorhomes.
- Sense of Unwelcoming:
In some cases, locals have made it clear that they feel unwelcome and that the success of the NC500 has come at the cost of their peace and quiet.
Tourism vs. Local Needs:
- The NC500 was intended to boost tourism and the local economy, but the rapid growth in popularity has created tensions with locals who feel their needs are not being adequately addressed.
- While many motorhome owners are responsible and respectful, the actions of a few are creating significant problems for the local communities.
- The situation highlights the need for a more sustainable approach to tourism on the NC500, one that balances the economic benefits with the needs and concerns of the local population.
In conclusion, while the NC500 route is promoted as a scenic tourist attraction, some motorhome owners are contributing to significant problems for locals, leading to frustration, anger, and calls for action to address the negative impacts of over tourism.
They don’t know how to use a passing place, or worse, park up in one. They forget that locals have jobs and places to be…
North Coast 500 Locals HATE Campervans & That is WHY …
Morning, Nice here today things getting back to normal…Phew
Not long back from the pool and away to do a quick tidy up before meeting the girls for lunch, catchup, gossip and the complaints dept well and truly open
Enjoy the day.
Morning. Rox, like you didn’t really like all the tourists but they did bring money into the town. Going over to Byres Road today in the West End for a change while the sun is out. Enjoy your lunch with your friends.
Hi
The campervans, caravans and cars towing boats are a real nuisance here at weekends and holidays.
We are at the end of the M54 and A5 Dual Carriageway when it all goes down to one lane winding roads with roundabouts to get into Wales.
They are referred to locally as the Birmingham Armada.
Goodness Rox … looking at that photo what does actually happen if a camper comes the other way?
I can guess the lovely countryside just ain’t geared for such an invasion. Must be madness.
Had a quiet morning … this afternoon, as it’s nice I think I’ll go and feed the ducks. I just feel I ought to make the most of the nice days now … it’ll be thermal long johns and woolly knickers soon.
Someone has to reverse to a passing place. That can cause real problems because a lot of them can’t handle a huge motor home properly, never mind reverse. If they’re lucky someone who’s stuck behind one of them can drive properly and a rescue operation is put in place to sort the idiots out and get everything sorted. Himself’s done it a few times and boy oh boy did he let them know what he thought of them and their antics lol.
Morning, Weather not too bad here but I’m not heading out anywhere. A slow quiet day for me I think, bit wobbly again. Had a call from my sister in Auz to let me know she’s coming over for a few weeks and as this will probably be her last time she’s wanting a big family get-together. She will be staying with one of my other sisters just outside Perth, so she will arrange everything. Not seen our Della for several years so really looking forward to it.
I had wondered how many get themselves stuck in muddy ditches and have to call a farmer for help to tow them out.
Perhaps they shoud pay AA rates for the help.
Afternoon. A few tricky parking situations there. Quite windy here at the moment, got one lot of washing out and dried. Went out to do some weeding and the rain cme on but now stopped. Going out shorty to the shops for a few things.
Wow! I have enough of a problem with the A9.
