Over 50's Club Scotland (Part 1)

I hope Jess and Bonnie find them if they 've gone to the spam box…the sun’s coming out here now…nearly 8pm

No sun up here. Torrential rain all afternoon. When I went through the process of joining the new site I had to change my password and was prompted to check my spam folder for the activation link and that is where it landed.

I must be the odd one out. My email went to my inbox. :yum:

Good morning each,a very wet one here so it’ll be a day of housework and cooking for the freezer,
I’m having problems with My eyes feeling tight & gritty and the glaring white screen on here isn’t helping,so I’m staying off the laptop today and if there’s no improvement I’ll have to think about giving up.
Have a good one Folks.xx

morning folks, cloudy today, not doing much except some washing…it’s supposed to rain later, enjoy your day …

Morning All, God I hate this place now. It took me ages to even find the thread. I don’t think I will stay around if I’m going to have all this carry on every day. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: It’s pouring with rain again, despit what the weatherman said.
May give your eyes a bath in Optrex, I find it works wonders. :eyes:

Afternoon Lassies, the cataracts in My eyes have worsened and if I strain them stuff becomes blurred so reading can be difficult,I’m fine after a rest but they really need to be done though God knows when,

Roxy You just have to click on Your avatar/preferences/activity and You’ll see where Your posts are.or click on categories and scroll down left hand side.

My avatar is not on the page when I come into the forum.

Ok,then You 'llhave to bookmark the HOMEPAGE where You’ll see it at top right,

were You asked to change Your password?
I did as it needs at least 10 characters and My old one just had 8.

Yes I did it from the link on the old forum. I was not happy about it as I have had the same password since the day I first joined, a good many years now. :disappointed_relieved:
I did wonder what the Bookmark was for and I’ve clicked on it for this thread, now we wait n see. :eyes:
Do you know how to turn on the spelling correct thingy?

I don’t think there is one Rox,I’ve had to use the wee pencil thing a few times to correct Mine.

Hi Roxy, just a quick post to give what may be an answer to navigating this site and finding threads easier. I was having the same problem, it was all a mystery, but Azz gave the procedure to making the Home page more like the old one. It’s much easier so it might just help you. If you do this it’s also very easy to return temporarily to the old one where there is just a long list of posts. The link below will take you to the thread Azz put up for this, you want the second post where it’s all explained. Hope this is of some help to you. :grinning:

Thanks Baz, I’ve done that, will see how it goes. Do you know if there’s a spelling correction thing? and how to turn it on.

That’s good, hope you find it easier. One other thing you will noice with this is there’s a longer (better) list of Categories on he left hand side. Also to return to what you had before just click on ‘Latest’ at the top left.

There was a reply to your thread asking about spellcheckers, that is probably correct as spell checkers are on your device operating system and not on here. I use a Mac and on this the preference is for the spell check to be on permanently. If I turn it off for one lot of text then when that has been finished and another lot of text started it’s on again! A real pain as these spell checkers are useless for me as I touch-type, they actually slow me down as I might on occasions just catch a key incorrectly but the spell checker takes that as an error and puts in the word it believes is right, often it’s totally wrong so a real pain to have to stop typing and correct the word. All good fun though and what would we be doing without this steep learning curve? :grinning:

Thanks Baz, I did see the answer in the questions section but when I followed it there was no mention of a spell check anywhere in the settings. I suppose I will once again have to wait till my daughter comes up here for a few days. In all honesty I wish things had been left well alone. :disappointed_relieved:

I was a bit like that at first too, as person of habit it takes some adjusting to anything new. Being on computers since around 1982 I have gone through many, many changes and basically it has to happen or we would never move forward at all. Personally I take any change as more of a challenge to be conquered. After it’s only a computer, a new forum and a new way of using that forum – that’s not going to beat me, that is for sure! I hope your daughter can help you out with the spell checker, have you thought of googling for any information on it? There’s often an answer to be found but I feel sure Azz will come up with an answer for you, he’s done very well with all of our queries to date. :grinning:

I’ve never used a spellchecker and I wouldn’t know how…luckily English was My best subject at School, lol, but I still make mistakes and have to go back and correct them if I haven’t first checked My post.

Aye,I agree challenging ones self is good when We get to a certain age,and being able to conquer something new is very satisfying for Me.

Hi @May
You may have been using a spell checker without even realising, they just work in the background, only becoming obvious when an error is made, or when it believes an error has been made!

I agree, it is very satisfying to conquer something like this new forum. Perhaps our brains do slow down as we age, but speed is not part of it. The taking part and solving the problems means more than being able to whizz round the site like an 18-year-old. These days probably even younger as their brains are, I am sure, wired differently to the those of the older generation! :grinning:

I didn’t even know how to turn on a computer till after I retired…and took a six week course on the basics…that was 18 years ago…so the old brain is slowing down…I tried to start a new thread, but the title has to have a certain amount of letters???.. so I gave up

So like others on here…I preferred the old way…I’m giving it a go. but don’t know how long I’ll last…
