Bathsheba, That is brilliant news about your sister. I am really pleased for you all.
The medical team have been fantastic.
My sister has been on a ventilator since yesterday afternoon - it was initially scary to think this was happening, but itās probably the best thing for her while she fights the sepsis. So now her lungs, and therefore her heart, are supported, as are her kidneys as sheās still on dialysis. This means that her body is no longer struggling to support these organs, and can get on with the work of fighting the infection. The infection markers have come down by around 50% since Thursday afternoon. Theyāre still extremely high, at over 200 (over 100 is considered severe), but hopefully the downward trend will continue. Iām just so grateful that she knows nothing about this, being heavily sedated while on a ventilator. It is so hard on all of us, but sheāll have no memory of it.
Thank you all for your continued support and prayers
Is for the best to take the strain off all her vital organs and letting her give all her attention to fighting the infection.
Sending you hugs
@Bathsheba Just to say my thoughts are with you all along with positive energy and lots of Hugs too,
I hope today brings positive news Shebaā¦thinking of you x
Hi
Difficult times for you and the rest of the family.
Your sister is in the best place, they are very, very good in ITU.
The latest news is even more encouraging! With that additional oxygen support and staff who are monitoring her so closely, she is being every possible weapon to fight her way back. I will keep checking in; you and she are much on my mind.
I am so glad your sister got through the night ok Bathsheba, I am sending both you and your sister hugs.
Not so good news earlier. My sister had a CT scan this afternoon because apparently her abdomen was distended (first Iād heard about this). It showed no bleed in the gut, but there is a blood clot blockage. The gastroenterologist said no point in surgery, as no visible bleed. This is seen as a āsmall positiveā. But the doctor said itās now critical to see some recovery on the respiratory and BP fronts etc, and said the situation is very serious. With multiple systems supporting her and with little improvement, the chances of organs returning to some sort of function start to diminish. And we are now at the point where if she arrested again they would not be able to restart her heart.
Iām praying, but Iām back to thinking that nobody really listens to these prayers, let alone hears themā¦ I just feel numb, hollow.
I wish there was something I could say that would make your pain go away and have your sister better again. Never give up hope, Shebaā¦her body is still recovering from the attack and the systems are helping her, not hindering her. I suppose these medical people have to tell you the bad bits, thatās their job. But never say neverā¦recovery is possible. Thinking of you and sending all the virtual hugs I can. xx
Bethsheba
Difficult to know what to say. All I can say is donāt give up hope. Wish I had a magic wand that would just make things better.
Sending you hugs and my thoughts are with you and your sister.
My heart goes out to you Bethsheba. Try to keep positive even though that must be difficult at the moment. Sending my best wishes and more positive vibes.
As others have said, so sorry to hear this Sheba.
I wish I could help you feel better.
Very sad to be reading this, my thoughts are with, your dear sister and family
Iām sorry to hear that Bathsheha. I wish it were otherwise for you and your sister but hang in there.
Bathsheba, they may well be able to break up that clot with medications. Most clots are treated effectively that way - without surgery. She has been through a lot, but all that medical support means that she still has a chance - and she is still holding on.
Thank you all so much for your kindness. My nephew has just texted to say he called the nurse again, who said thereās no change, theyāre just letting her rest so the medication can do its work. She then held the phone to my sisterās ear so he could talk to her. She of course was unable to respond, but he was able to tell her that we are all praying for her, naming everyone individually, that we all love her and hope sheāll recover. That was such a lovely thing the nurse did for him. I think it must have brought him so much comfort.
Such a heartwarming thing to do. Hope it brings him some comfort.
God Thatās finished me off now, itās very dusty here
