Well things have moved on apace since I last updated here! My sister’s ‘off ventilator’ session have been increasing, and now she’s managing 4 sessions daily of 1 hour each, so that’s real progress! The infection appears to be under control, with the markers going down slowly.

But best news of all is that the hospital has relaxed its strict rule on visiting, and my nephew can now visit her regularly! There are 4 patients in her little ward and only one visitor overall is allowed in at any one time, so he has to book a time slot. How wonderful that he is now able to talk to her, and she can respond - often just nodding, smiling and mouthing words, but it must be giving her something to look forward to, and alleviating the boredom now that she’s awake quite a lot more than she was. He asked if I could maybe do a little video, just a short one, so he could show her when he goes in next time. So far he’s shown her video clips of his two daughters, his wife and their new little puppy, which brought a big smile. I’ve sent a clip to him today, and my daughter and granddaughter have sent him another very short one. I’ve asked my son to do one as well. My nephew has also been able to take in photos of family members, which he’s been allowed to sellotape to the end of her bed.

Fingers crossed that this progress continues :crossed_fingers:. The icing on the cake would be to hear that her kidneys have started to function again, but I fear that may never happen. Still, for now, we’re all so pleased that she’s doing so much better than she has been. Five weeks tomorrow since she was blue-lighted in.

Thanks all for your continued support and good wishes. I have to keep reminding myself, though, that she is still in ICU, and is still very ill. But things are looking much more hopeful than they were - just over two weeks ago we really thought it was the end, and now she’s sitting up, watching videos, reading get well cards and managing some sort of communication. Happy days :relaxed:
