My darling sister

How is your sister doing @Bathsheba

Thank you for asking @Maver-rik. She’s not doing well, and we all know she’s not coming back to us. Still in ICU, where she’s been since 7th February, although in the meantime she has been transferred from the cardiac ICU in Basildon hospital to the general ICU in Chelmsford. She seems to be going downhill, with multiple organ failure, and they’ve never managed to get the sepsis under control. She has serious muscle wastage, which of course is impacting her heart, a major muscle itself. She’s weak and confused, and spends most of her time either sleeping or dozing.

So I don’t think this can go on much longer. In fact, I hope it doesn’t because it’s so unfair, so pointless to keep on patching her up, and so awful for her two boys, my nephews.

I will update on here if there are any further changes.

So sorry Bathsheba, I was hoping that she was on the mend when you didn’t say more. I lost my sister to cancer a few years ago so I have an idea of what you are going through. I send my best wishes to you and a huge hug.

I’m so sorry Bathsheba. And I think I understand your feelings.

My mother was suddenly rushed to hospital. By the time I got there she had died. My father got to the point where he had no life at all, no recognisance who I was for his last few years. I think I preferred the former option.

Thank you all so much for caring, it really means a lot me. But don’t feel sad for me - that time has passed now. In my head I’ve already said goodbye to her. I’ve accepted the inevitable, and I feel surprisingly calm about it. I know that when she takes her last breath, I will be inconsolable, but it won’t be the shock it would have been if her life had suddenly been snuffed out on 2nd February when her heart stopped.

So I probably won’t update this thread again until/unless something major, good or bad, happens.

Bathsheba, I am very sorry to read this update.
When it had all gone quiet, l suppose l thought your sister was making some sort of recovery. Now to read this, it seems it wasn’t like that at all.
I must say, your sister has been so brave and a terrific fighter but sometimes you just can’t fight anymore

Love to you all.

Very sad for you Bathsheba :icon_sad: I lost my big sister Beth some years ago.
I used to visit her in the Northern General in Sheffield and each time I went she had deteriorated a little more and I feared it might be the last time I would go there. It’s a hard thing to see for a family.
