My darling sister

Bathsheba, small steps but more good news. I think we all feel for you and weve been on this rollercoaster journey with you. We’ve cried with you and now we are rejoicing in your good news. Long may it continue. :hugs:

What a traumatic time you have all had Bethsheba - let’s hope it’s the teacup ride from now on until you can get off the rides all together. My very best wishes to you and your family.

This quotation from Christina Rossetti says it all I think:

“For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
To fetch one if one goes astray,
To lift one if one totters down,
To strengthen whilst one stands.”

So good to read this even more encouraging news - I’m so pleased for you all - you must be so exhausted with the emotional rollercoaster.

Your dear Sis really is a fighter.
Will keep sending those positive vibes for a full and speedy recovery for her. :hugs:

How is your sister @Bathsheba?

Thanks for asking. I haven’t posted any updates for a few days because there hasn’t been a lot of change really. She remains completely off the sedation, mostly off the BP meds, but has been on them for brief periods when there’s been a dip in her BP. They take her off the ventilator for 3 x 30 minute periods each day to see how she can cope on her own. She can manage that long at a time, but not usually longer. She’s been having physiotherapy for her hands, particularly her fingers, and feet because she simply hasn’t been using them all this time, so they need to be kept mobile, and the joints need exercising.

Unfortunately she remains on dialysis as her kidneys are resolutely refusing to do any work, and the medics have very little hope that they will start functioning again. This is a worry, because if she does make any kind of recovery, sufficient to be allowed to leave hospital, I think we all accept that she will need to be moved to a nursing/care home. And with no kidney function, she would need to have dialysis a few times a week, permanently.

But in the meantime we continue to have hope for her. And I continue to be grateful for all your support on here :kissing_heart:

Yes, best wishes from me too. She has been such a fighter and to have that kind of future…doesn’t bear thinking about! Is she aware of how ill she has been, and still is?

Hugs to all.

I’m not sure. She’s very, very weak, and spends a lot of time asleep from what I gather. But because she’s now off the sedation, I would hazard a guess that she is aware at some level that she is very ill. But she probably doesn’t have the energy to dwell on it, just drifting in and out of sleep most of the time.

As a new member i dont know anyone that well really but I hope that you won’t mind too much if I’m being presumptuous when I say that I’ll be lighting a candle in my church for you and your sister when I go in later today?
