I can agree with that. “Made in China” springs to mind. It’s a bit like a tattoo 30 years on when all of the detail has blurred and now looks like a rotten aubergine with bits of it falling off. 
My step-daughter (30 years old) gave me these for Christmas. I wear them as I would any other. If I had to wear a suit & tie, however …. I wouldn’t. While you are thinking - but before you ask - I am 2 months away from my 75th. birthday and I am a devout heterosexual. I am proud to live in a country where machismo is seldom appreciated and if anyone were to make conclusions to me wearing these I am sure it would be ”a nice, down-to-earth guy who is confident in himself”. 
I’m not really sitting here thinking my life would be infinitely better with avocado socks! 
When looking for new size 15 socks, anything on offer has to be considered. H J Hall’s 14-16 are mostly my only option and even then the colours/styles are very limited.
These ‘brogue’ socks are a bit different. I suppose you’d wear them for a bet!
Ladies are always complaining about what men chose to wear (“You’re not going out in that are you?”).
They don’t ask how us blokes feel about them strutting about in their very high heeled shoes & fishnet stockings!
And tight shorts!
