Lilibet Takes The Stage

Football matches provide security for thousands of people not one family .
The club where matches are played have to contribute to the security inside the ground .
This is paid for by the gate ( tickets ) paid to enter the ground

From your article:

The Express adds that Harry and Meghan’s wedding reportedly cost £8 million more than William and Kate’s Westminster Abbey wedding in 2011, with the increase widely believed due to an increased terrorist threat resulting in more money needing to be spent on the security of the royals, guest and the public.

While the cost of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding may seem ludicrous to some, it’s worth noting their big day was predicted to inject approximately £80m into the country’s economy.

Please note they also include ‘the public’ in that.

‘Predicted’ it’s wasn’t a forgone conclusion and it only brought predicted benefits to Windsor not the entire country. It’s good of them to include the public seeing as the ‘ public was paying the full whack .

We’re talking about security. You said that the security was just to protect them, when it wasn’t it was to protect the public as well.

And also you state that football matches have security in the grounds, yes they do, but have you ever been to a football match, because I have. And the fights, etc. are on the way to and leaving the match that’s where the police come in.

The third problem facing the police is that despite the rise in disorder over recent years, they are able to recover only a small proportion of the money they spend on policing. Mark Roberts, the football policing lead for the National Police Chiefs’ Council, has put the cost of policing professional football matches in England and Wales at over £48 million a year, of which police are able to claim back only around £5.5 million from clubs. Why are the police repaid only a fraction of their costs? The question of who pays for football policing is complicated, and has been in dispute for many years. The argument chiefly centres on the cost of policing outside stadiums, whether on closed streets immediately surrounding them or routes to and from the match. Despite the huge wealth that many football clubs have, they consistently challenge the extent to which they should refund the police for their expenditure outside the ground itself.

The Jubilee cost £28 million and returned revenues of around £400 million

That means it cost each person £0.43p and brought in £6.15 for each person, if we go by the crazy calculator.

The real reason the socialists hate the Monarchy is nothing to do with money (although envy plays a big part), its the fact that if the government ever turns tyrannical (as in an authoritarian leader which the socialists dream of) the Monarch, being a constitutional Monarch can blow up the government and hand democracy back to the people by means of a general election. The same goes in other countries such as Australia and Canada that the Queen is the ruling Monarch.

God Save the Queen.

That about sums it up, Art. :slightly_frowning_face:

I have to say that there is nothing in the Monarchy to be remotely envious about (in my opinion). It is as restricted a life as any prison. However, I’m glad you provided a calculation of the cost to the taxpayer, because I was fairly peeved at how much (generally) it was costing us. Also I would love to know how the £400 million was being distributed around the country. (as in the whole UK)

Yeah exactly, imagine working until your 96 years old ?

Te 400 million would have mainly gone to businesses which in turn pay taxes through income tax, VAT and corporation tax.

I was going to say the BBC did a superb job of covering the event but their stupid stunt showing the Republic of Irelands flag instead of Northern Ireland etc spoiled what would have been a superb viewing experience. Trust the BBC to pull stupid stunts like that… no wonder people are turning away.

But people are venomous Art …over everything and everyone.

Not just Harry and Meg.
I still cringe when I read how people stop and take snaps on their mobiles whilst egging despairing suicidal people on to jump off motorway bridges.
Humans are pretty grotty and social media often attracts the worst types ( us lot excluded, of course)

IMO this is the best post on the entire thread.

Yup, they were very reluctant to show photos of Archie, and now this? A bit odd, perhaps they don’t like this one as much? (joke)

I dunno, but I think there might have been a bit of a plan to make an ‘event’ of the Queen meeting her, with lots of nice publicity photos

And if that was the plan, I think it was a good idea to forestall it by not letting in the photographer

The Jubilee celebrations were the big thing and didn’t need to be upstaged by what was was only a small, family thing really

And if all Harry and Meghan wanted was for Gran and granddaughter to meet each other, then they got that and shouldn’t have been bothered by the rest

Having said that, she’s a dear little girl, very pretty and that red hairs going to be smashing

Quite a solid, chunky child, not one of those delicate little girls and I think she’s a lot like the Markles, especially Megan’s sister. So is Archie that gene pool must be strong

Who gives a flying fig what’s that gruesome twosome (H&M) do or don’t do. I’m just glad they’re over there and not over here.
They are hypocrites & liars.
The Queen rarely gets to see her Great Grandchildren yes that is sad . But apart from that who cares !

Not always . The police are paid to attend inside the football grounds the clubs are billed for this service .
Outside the police are doing the job the taxpayer pays them for - to keep law and order.

You may be right Maree
It’s difficult to know about genes I believe the gene for red hair is very strong .
Remember Boris Beckers broom cupboard baby the little girl looked exactly like him.
Here is a photo of Thomas Markle at 18 .
He didn t look so bad

Yes and that’s what the police were doing at Harry and Meghan’s wedding and extra security was needed due to the terrorist threat level at that time. Imagine if the police weren’t there for the public, it would have been a terrorists paradise.

The police were there primarily to protect the royal family and their guests the public were secondary .
Terrorists can strike anywhere where there are crowds it doesn’t mean there is always a large police presence.

There is at football matches and that’s why it costs the tax payers so much every year as per the article I posted above.
