Just got back from the vets - 2 possible ops

Our first British Blue (cat) was a bit difficult when we had her spayed.
The Vet was only a few minutes walk from our house and by the time OH got her home, she’d pulled out some of the stitches. It was a hot summer, so that probably made her feel worse and ‘behave badly’.

We were well prepared for all sorts, when we had her female kitten ‘done’.

We confined her to our bedroom, took the legs off the bed, stopped up any gaps under wardrobes, chests of drawers, anything she might disappear under and made it all as easy as possible.

Good grief!!! she was entirely different from mum … she lay on the bed and said she couldn’t possibly move … ever again …
I had to feed and and water her on the bed and dance in attendance until she felt a little better and could manage to walk a few paces. She never even looked at her stitches and didn’t need a lampshade collar.

I think you might be right, Nom.

I’m beginning to think she’s milking it a bit.

So you have been through it too, Rachel.

Aren’t they funny. They are all so different though.

Yes … we all react differently.

Her normally fairly loud voice became barely audible but when she recovered, she went on to rule the house.

Small and attractive as she was, her loud, rasping voice was something else!

There was to be no whistling, singing, playing of violin or recorder, no raised voices etc.

If I called out from downstairs (OH worked at home) to ask if he wanted his mug of tea in his studio or downstairs, she would utter.
Initially it would be a small ‘do not disturb, I am resting’.

When I had to repeat it, her voice increased. This was invariably when OH was answering, so I had to ask again.

It could carry on until she got out of bed, tapped me on the leg with a paw, gave me a Margaret Thatcher look and shouted.

She lived until she was 16 and without her, the house was unbearably quiet.

Sometimes I would sing or whistle because I felt like it and then felt her loss because I could do it without the ‘complaints’

Awww… she’s lapping up the extra attention while she can

Make the most of it Gertie!

Thanks Mags.

Strewth, she has actually decided she can walk a little, this morning.

We’re getting there. :023:

What’s more, she can also jump - which she shouldn’t be doing - and I found her curled up sound asleep on my bed today!
Caught red handed.

Hoorayyyyyyyyy  well done Gertie :038:

I’m sure she will feel better once the stitches are out, Betty was a dying swan until they were removed, they seemed to prick her as she tried to walk and she didn’t like it. I’m thinking gertie is small enough to have that problem too. Elsie had no such difficulty because being bigger the stitches didn’t stick into her skin as she moved.

Gertie doesn’t have stitches Julie, the vet used the glueing technique

Mups I think she is very smart and has realized that you will do whatever she wants, while she is feeling ill… just be careful because she will expect all the extra care to continue when she has recovered… the little minx.

Keep an eye on your strawberries Mups

Gertie’s glued Julie, not stitched.
I know what you mean though, I’ve seen stitches pricking them on the others. It must feel very uncomfortable.

I must say I think I prefer this glueing method so far, because there is no seepage at all. I have often seen slight oozing and redness between stitches in the past, but with the glue, there are no gaps, the entire length of the wound is sealed. What’s more I doubt if it ‘pulls’ like stitches can.

I’m going to ask him all about it when she goes back for her check up.

She still waited for her breakfast in bed this morning, which I gave her, and it was about an hour later I caught her asleep on my bed - little madam.
I’d give anything to see her being naughty again though.

I’m sure she will be ok mups, she is I think milking it a bit, Elsie loved being carried up stairs after her op, it took days to persuade her no one was going to keep doing it, a Labrador had to walk up them.

Ohhhhhh … more virtual hugs for Gertie and Julie.

We caring people suffer so very much when the furry (or other) members of the family are poorly.

Yey! My little brown blob got up and had her tea properly tonight.

She’s getting there. :023:

Wonderful news, Mups, it will not be long before you are chading her out of the strawberry patch again. Is Nellie looking after her?

No, Nellie’s no help at all, Tabs.
She seems to use the time she knows I am occupied, to get up to no good elsewhere.
I don’t call her ‘Naughty Nellie’ for nothing.

Gertie’s getting better every day now.
She did her funny grin at me this morning, so that’s a good sign. It’s hard to describe, she only does it when she’s really excited.
She sort of pulls her lips right back, almost like a snarl, and screws her eyes up and wriggles her bum furiously. She looks so funny, she is laughing, I know she is. I love to see her happy like that.

So pleased to hear the good news

Nellie won’t be when she finds that there will be two raiding the strawberries!
