Not sure Annie, it was just Lincs saying that it was Putin who broke the treaty and I was thinking that it was probably Ukraine wanting to purge all the Russian sympathisers out of Ukraine.

Russia has never recognised Ukraine’s right to exist as a sovereign nation. If you speak to Russians they think it’s just a part of Russia, they say that the Ukrainians are their kin and will list a number of Ukrainian ancestors etc. They will also tell you about the Kievan Rus and the whole history of the cossacks etc. So if they don’t want Ukraine to exist as a separate nation they will never accept or respect it.
During the Soviet Union and before that during the Russian Empire’s time, many Russians moved into the lands of the nations they acquired. Many didn’t want to move back and still see these areas as being Russian rather than Latvian, Lithanian, Belarussian or Ukrainian etc. It’s hard to let go.
NB all the above came from the fall of the Soviet Union which is a whole topic of its own, but it happened you tell me which countries in Europe you think should return to the control of Moscow? if you think it’s just Ukraine then please explain why.

Thanks for the information, I like Russia from from what I’ve seen on various TV documentaries in the past, several celebs have visited there and enjoyed the experience. Obviously now the rhetoric has changed and we are supposed to hate Putin and Russia.
I have gathered a few other snippets of information over the years but it’s not really my thing, and I don’t know that much about Ukraine or other ex soviet countries. I suppose Russia are about the same as us or America who go storming in to various countries if they think human rights are being denied. Personally, I don’t thing human rights matter as much as the mineral wealth of a country. But I don’t blame Putin for protecting his borders, I wonder how we would like it America sent lots of money over to Ireland to finance the IRA…Wait a minute!

Russia was selling gas to Germany, making billions, half of Germany’s gas came through Nord Stream 1.
