Just in passing, Robin, it sounds like you’re thinking of tourists from Europe? To use your wording, look at all the Europeans who have been to the US but were not impressed by a fuel-guzzling car that, at home, would cost them an arm and a leg to fill up, cars too big for multistorey car parks and city traffic, cars that can be used in the US but would be useless in other areas. No place for jealousy. Why would you be jealous of something that is hopelessly anachronistic today? Rather than being proud of cars that consume more gas than needed and of the fact that people can afford high gas consumption because gas prices are low, the Europeans I know might become jealous if the US used their ingenuity to make better cars.
What makes you think that all people who may have a different view on some aspects are all “haters” of the US? There’re also many shades of gray in what people think about the US, not just black and white.
