I pay $92 a month in Medicare now. Reduced down from 202. Got two subsidiary insurance one if free because a life choice I made and the other cost $84. I pay absolutely nothing out of pocket because of life choices I’ve made. Those that make different life choices and find out that make bankrupt them. Their choice. No cure for stupidity.
Ahh, the voice of caring America. Your fellow people who most likely didn’t really have much in way of choices. Perhaps also had health issues that were not their choice. The people who need help and support most. And your lovely response is “no cure for stupidity”. Nice. Are there many people who think like you in your country?
While you are enjoying basking in your selfishness perhaps you need to read up a bit on universal healthcare. Focus on the bit about providing care for everyone, regardless of wealth, status, religion, existing health conditions or anything. Certainly it is paid for by the people - in the same way roads, policing and education is paid for by everyone.
Let me give you an example. My friend here has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. This has involved radiography and chemo treatments = after the initial surgery. She has had good weeks and bad weeks, perhaps a total of 20 weeks in hospital over the last two years. She has been treated in clinics and in the cancer specialist hospital as well as local hospitals. She is being treated by specialists. Because this is categorised here as a life critical illness she gets the following on top of the treatments I’ve already listed - taxi to and from the hospital for the chemo treatment, 250 km round trip; top up pay because has not been able to earn while ill, all the additional drugs needed while going through this treatment, nurse visits at home after the surgery. All paid for by the health system. That is how a civilised country treats people unlucky to get a terrible illness. Or as you call it, poor life choices and stupidity.

You can’t fix it. I pay road tax because I use it, I pay county tax because I want it police protection, I pay school tax because I used it. I don’t pay for your friend medical because I don’t use it, why don’t everyone pay my property tax? Because they don’t use it. Why don’t everyone pay my fuel a vehicle tax? Because they don’t use it. Why don’t people pay for my hotel room ? Because they don’t use it.
Why don’t others pay for my medical? Because the didn’t smoke my cigarette, they didn’t drink my alcohol, they didn’t crash my vehicle, they didn’t stand my ground. Why would the pay for my life choices?
That is how socialist countries do it and not many of them are still around.

This is what I’m getting at the run-a-way billionaires funky dream of humanity future of just laying about in the sun with little to do. This has to get a lasso and harness to a dark stable and fast.
