Is Amazon Prime worth the money?

Don’t they send you an email acknowledging your free trial? You can cancel the trial any time up to thirty days after sign-up.

No problem. Accept the trial and make a note of the termination date so you know exactly when to cancel!

I’ve never bought anything off Amazon and never will, in that way, when I get phone calls from them telling me ‘There has been illegal activity on your account’ or ‘£700 has been charged to your account’ or ‘Your order has been accepted and your account has been debited’ I know that its not possible, because I don’t have an amazon account, and furthermore, I refuse to sit on my arse watching box sets for the rest of my life…rant over!
If it wasn’t for Mrs Fox, the telly would be in the bin…What a complete waste of life…

I’m beginning to think along those lines too, OGF.
There seems to be less and less on Amazon worth watching, and those films which are frequently require an additional payment. That’s just being greedy.

Amazon is still the cheapest place for me to buy my printer inks and free ‘next day’ is a bonus!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there are dozens of good quality, free, free, free, I tells yer films since IMDB channel was added. A lot of classic films, and quite a few recent ones too - less than two years old I would say.

Thanks Judd, preciates it…

I have used Amazon for many years and have found them to be usually reliable.

However, I ordered a Bosch hedge trimmer on 25 February and was told it would arrive before 8 February.
On 26 January I clicked ‘track package’ and read the message ‘undeliverable’. No explanation, just that.
On 29 January I used the Amazon Chat Line to speak to someone about this, got through to three different people because each one seemed to disconnect for some reason. The last person assured me that the item was NOT cancelled and that I WILL receive it by 8 February.
On 31 January I received a further email stating that the item has been dispatched.
I clicked ‘track your package’ again only to see the same ‘undeliverable’ message again and that the item has been cancelled.
on 1 February I received another email thanking me for sending the item back - which I hadn’t simply because I had never received it.
The next day I contacted the Chat Line once again and complained about all the promises and misinformation I had received from his colleagues. I got no futher other than “would you like me to arrange a refund?”

I shall write to the CEO of Amazon UK who, I believe, welcomes feedback as ‘he likes to keep track on the performance of his staff’. I have found his email address and shall compose a message today.
I feel no shame in dropping these incompetents in it, before anyone accuses me, as it’s what they deserve!

I don’t have Amazon Prime but my daughters do.
I think if you can afford it, why not?

It’s well worth it to me. Apart from next day delivery, free postage/carriage (often saving around £3 to £5 delivery charges each time), Kindle stuff, Amazon Music, Amazon Prime TV and grocery deliveries I also get free games from Amazon Prime Gaming. I got some of the ones I was interested in and it amounted to around £80 of free games over December/January and there’s more every month or two. There are free codes for items in PC games, too, not that they mean much to me as they mainly do games that kids like, but there have been a couple for Amazon’s “New World game” which were quite nice to have.

Re. my post above. I have now written to the CEO of Amazon UK, providing all details. Whether I continue to use Amazon or Amazon Prime depends on his response.

Amazon Prime just raised its annual membership from $119 to $139 per year in the US.

They say a UK price increase could be next. Still worth it?

In the US, Amazon is also facing unionizaton of workers, which could cost them more money.

I took a look at Amazon Fresh’s prices. The prices are much higher compared to the competition in my area.

It is still $59 a year here. I think it is still good value it has saved more than that in postage costs for me.

Not that it will make much of a difference, but customers are calling in to cancel their Amazon Prime accounts from quotes on twitter.

One thing that’s clear is that people on twitter don’t control the markets or politics.

Wow, that’s a cheap deal @Bruce, more than double that here!

I have received a response from one of the CEO’s underlings making the expecte apologies and assuring me that the staff who lied to me will be given ‘retraining’ (presumably with a whip!). I have also been offered the standard £5 pay-off which, of course, I shall refuse.

It would appear that a lot of people use Amazon for films etc, but I think in my case I haven’t watched a film all the way through since my last visit to the cinema in 2019 before covid.
Although there aren’t many films that I haven’t seen in my 71 years, I’m having trouble hearing them now on the telly and it somewhat spoils my enjoyment. I was fancying getting a ‘sound bar’ can anyone recommend them?

I don’t think Amazon has been the runaway success here that it has in foreign parts. I could be wrong but that is my impression.

I could certainly recomment my ‘soundbar’ but I’m afraid it is no longer available. What I would say, though, is to listen to some first.
Mine has a separate subwoofer which, with the volume turned up, can shake the whole room. Without the subwoofer it is far less effective.
Some of these things don’t include a subwoofer but claim to produce a deep bass sound, but I’m not convinced as they only seem to comprise small speakers in the ‘bar’.
Try listening to some, with and without a subwoofer, and see for yourself.

I have my TV sound going through my Yamaha sound system. I think one advantage is that it makes use of the full surround sound (5.1?). The smart TVs are designed to allow this I think sound bars are only stereo (could be wrong).

The whole thing can be used for all your sound/video like radio, music and/or video server, Spotify etc and, even if a bit deaf like me, still hear it down the bottom of the garden
